help, my buddy is being forced back 2 work after a long illness
looks like they want him out, whats the last stages they will put
him through.

He had a meeting with the manager during this he was told his wages wld be stoped
If he didn't come back also when back they wld see if he was up to the job and take it from there.

I thought you got full statuary sick pay for 6 months then half pay for 6 more. Can Atos stop that if you are covered by your GP

thats right PM. if you refuse to be refered to ATOS or they deem you fit for some sort of work you have to go in or have your pay stopped

Well it's not the first time in our office it happened to a team member
Last year, he was depressed big time they forced him back then
Put him on some sort of plan said he wasn't up to the job ( failed his work plan they said he was on) and he is no more, my buddy thinks that's what's coming.

Can they make you work when you are signed off.
No, well as far as the legislation in the UK is concerned anyway. You are not legally allowed to work while under the sick note, they can be prosecuted for trying to make you do so.
But:
They could get rid of you eventually by saying you are no longer fit to do the job you were employed for, and offer you something else, if you refused this job they can then terminate your employment.
And:
No a sick note is a legal document saying that your doctor deems you unfit for work. In the UK you can report it to the employment law office
So they sort of can force you back by offering you something else it a bit confusing

I think tbf if you refuse their help(ATOS) then they would think you are hiding something.
Now if for some reason i had to go to ATOS and they feel that i'm ok for some kind of light duty,and i feel along with my doc that i can't do said light duty then i would fight them all the way.
If i could do the light duty without making things worse then i would have to swallow it.
