we were told today by the planner our office over the past year is " bucking the trend " when it comes to falling mail volumes . so that got me wondering if ne other offices out there were "bucking the trend"

I have recorded my areas figures for the past 2 years, I both say and prove that our mail figures are roughly the same if not slightly improved on a day for day basis...

Totally agree. The "final mile" as they like to call it is busier than ever,. More mail and packets....Working our nuts off. Royal mail say they only want you yo work your hours.....so why dont they get it when i tell them i dont want to work over ?? "You only want me to work my hours" "Yes but...no but". It aint our fault royal mail are getting a s**t price for competitors mail, we are doing our bit!!!!

must offices that use a gatekeeper system will know that the real figures do not match what rm/mc say and are mostly some where between 10% and 20% out and where there keep forgetting to advise on unuselly postings in resource meetings things like sky,gas, electric bills light blibs etc

your right because the mail doesnt have a rm stamp on it doesnt count but we still deliver it , parcels and packets are up which are harder to deliver, but mails down i would like to see some of the idiot doms who try and convince everybody it can and should be done try and deliver this in the time the planners have worked out . complete joke.

we get told every day the mail is down , even though cpl days last week we were out an hour and a half later than the specified time! Bags were all heavy as hell had to split em etc . Can you get a mail count for youre job for that day ? Its pointless saying the mails down as its an average for the office ,and some duties get shafted mail wise most days. Fed up of propoganda and lies. ,,,,, Bring in a 7 day workin week and an 8 hour delivery ,,btw my bodies knackered cheers r m!

while still preaching the "mails falling nationally" lie.

Overheard a manager on another section saying "Good jobs mail down or we would be struggling" as they were struggling I am sure he was of the same opinion as we are.

Don't suppose many DO staff know this,so i'll share my (limited) info on here.When mail figures are put into the computer terminals at a MC,they use a system called ACF(average container fill).There is a person whos job it is to measure how much mail is in whichever container is being used(ALT,SLEEVE,YORK,BOX etc)Obviously he cant measure every item in an office,so a certain amount is checked,and the average fill is worked out from this.Also the type of mail is taken into consideration,PPI Collection,MS2/3 etc.All MC have DIFFERENT ACF's because of this!Also a lot of managers at my MC have been told that the ACF is to be LOWERED! Managers are not happy,as say a ACF of manual letters was say,220 items per box,could be lowered to maybe 180 letters per box,straight away you have lost 40items per box,per sorter.How this can be right,is beyond me?!I have a thoery,which may well be wrong,but i reckon they lower the ACF as low as they can get away with,so they can say "mails dropping,staff aren't pulling their weight etc,etc.Then,once privatised,they crank the ACF up,say "look how good we are,mails up,productivity is up,etc etc.As i say just a thought,but you know what RM are like...............
