It has calmed down a lot in our place but all the flexibility has gone. Any slight hitch and everyone either cuts off or finishes an hour early.
We've given up using the trolleys most of the time which helps greatly, especially as my elbow is killing me! Unfortunately sometimes the trolleys are unavoidable when you have many packets.

I don't know for sure but I suspect the number of hours used is at least 10% over what it was before park and loop plus the fuel and maintenance give a massive increase in costs. If RM were only making 1% profit then no wonder the colleague shares are worthless.

Ours now work...Mon and Tue finish bang on time Wed-Fri come in 1/2 hour early on OT finish 1/2 hour to 1 hour late (OT) Sat can make about 30 mins. This is the future of RM it's called flexing up and it works for us. If you are not prepared to finish a bit late or start early it will never work in your office.

You mean longs and shorts? Yeah I can do that but I'm not keeping 1/2 and hour each side of my shift free just in case RM want me to do some overtime for them.
That isn't flexibility, that is me flexing for free and spending 30 mins of child care per day when I may not need it (and I earn 40p less per hour than my childcare costs).

This is the model week effect, they want to put revisions in at 38 wks over the model week in my area meaning that
overtime required 38 wks out of 52 to complete deliveries,we say thats not providing a quality service, they say thats flexing
up and being efficient.Area rep currently not signing this off and even DOM not keen.

Flexing up...bollocks.
Work your hours and get more jobs in.
What's the point in fighting for a Shorter Working Week if you have to flex it into a Longer Working Week?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Park and loop would work perfectly well IF the geo route revisions had been formulated properly and amended to take into account the obvious anomalies that to a trained eye were obvious............30mph in a pedestrian precinct for example and the reaason for that........the planner had no idea that it WAS a pedestrian precinct.............there should have been training for ordinary delivery officers in a group, each with a wealth of experience of the area in which they deliver.

There must be a formula that can be applied that DOES work BUT you need to decide what it is you are trying to achieve in the first place. It is absolutely no use in paying lip service to a "not driven by savings revision"

It is absolutely no use in paying lip service to a "not driven by savings revision" to a "there has not been enough savings" - what is it they want, a company moving forward to accommodate a delivery service in the 21st century or some cheap poorly run company not fit for purpose? Somebody needs to decide and quickly.

Exactly DV....if this was a true "modernisation" project aimed at aligning the business towards future product streams then it could have worked.
...but it wasn't...it was a ill-prepared,half-assed hybrid modernisation/cost and job cutting exercise dressed up in different clothes.

It has failed miserably on both counts.
My only surprise is that the union bought into this "vision" and that no-one at senior level in Royal Mail has been asked to pay for that failure....yet.
We can but hope though..... :whistle

We have been subject to change upon change without ever seeing through a complete across the board modernisation. Half the offices have moved forward and according some on here they haven't changed their working practices in years............I wonder if some are still using 56 box frames  There has clearly been a failure on the part of management to ensure that the changes were enforced and yet you get some people trying to defend working practices that have long since disappeared by subsequent agreement.

Slash and burn is a short term solution to a long term problem that ultimately puts you in a worse position than when you started. RM should have tackled this problem by looking into expansion. They had a large network of outlets that could have offered more services both financial and retail. Instead they are selling things off, closing things down and reducing staffing levels to a bare minimum.

Unfortunately I think it may be too late, the damage is done. Even if they were to get their heads out of thier arses and perhaps employ someone with even a basic unsderstanding of economics, they have reduced RMs chances of ever recovering from this with thier ridiculous approach to business! :Sick

Starting our P & L next week apparently. Where the cost of vans and extra staff required to cover cuts offs will costs a bloody fortune. Who in thier right mind would consider this a good way to increase profits??????? :arrrghhh
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
