Hi there,
Can anyone tell me what counselling is and how it is used by a manager?
I discussed it with a manager who said it doesn't need to be accepted or signed by the person who's been counselled. It is just a diary note that counselling has taken place.
If this is true then a manager can just say that counselling has already taken place and proceed to the conduct code. Does this sound right?
Are there any safeguards with this, or a recognised format? Is counselling in any way a penalty under the conduct code?
My reasons for asking relate to disability discrimination. Can a person be counselled for behaviour that is directly related to her disability? Such as a deaf person raising their voice? Or an epileptic having a seizure?

i wouldnt worry about it, i have had numerous counselling sessions with various managers.
they just ask if RM can help in anyway and have a chat about any incidents.

if i remember correctly i did have to sign something at the end of the interview but i cant tell you much about it as nothing much happens.

I think it depends I mean you cant counsel someone for swearing if they have Tourettes, but you can counsel them as in asking if they are ok and is there anything that can be done to make life easier and lessen the onset of symptons.POSTMAN wrote:Wouldn't of thought so,wtf!Can a person be counselled for behaviour that is directly related to her disability?
Thats the biggest problem in RM because they don't teach leadership most managers will not relaise that there are 2 sorts of counselling.
1. Addressing unacceptable or inappropriate behaviour.
2. Assisting staff with problems and helping them cope.
Most managers in RM have only heard of No 1.

What I'm thinking about is counselling when it is used as part of the conduct code. I.e. There has been a breach of conduct and the decision is made to counsel the employee about their behaviour.
Then if there is a further breach, and counselling has already been used, it will progress to a conduct penalty.
Is there a rulebook for this? And is there a specific format for recording it?
