More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
To get this company moving in the right direction, I feel strongly about the part time rights and regulations surrounding there contracts. The heavy flow of covering and expenditures on there behalf and the dispicable % agreement in which doing the same as a regular postman in doors to doors they get £12.50 on a pro rota basis.. If none of these part timers are not willing to stand up for themselves then I will. Something needs to get done to give them the foot in the door they need and deserve. Nobody can live on 25 hours aweek, but many do,and many do the same as regular posties who start 2 hours before, woopadeedoo, we still end up laying in walks because you cant finish them in time, and the regular posties wont move over and the company wont recognise this. We need more stability , we are not your skives to cover peoples walks when they are on days off, we are humn beings who deserve to be treated with the same repect as fulltime staff and this is not happening as set out in the rules,There is no room for career prospects here unless youve been with the company 100 years you might just be able to park in the depot. Somebody needs to step in a clean this mess up. They are walking all over you part timers and I feel your pain, Your left with unresolved work frames , miss sorted letters out on your deliveries, You are hounded by the public asking were the regular is day in day out, management talk to you like dirt and we take it? Y because we should be glad to have a job... rubbish. If we all pull together and work together we might get somewere.. Come on part timers lets stay together and, this is our time

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
some PT are quite happy with PT hour and wage however i feel the majority would like FT.
the BT2010 will take care of it with the 75%-25% ratio
does anybody know what the national % is at the mo?
could be one for the "freedom info act".

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
I'm happy on 25 hours. I'm financially prudent so I don't really need any/much overtime on top of that to survive. What I cannot do is survive on a temporary contract. I have enough money at present to move back out from my parents, but I don't have the financial security on a day-to-day basis to go and rent somewhere, as I would like to. It's a most unpleasant situation, and I loathe living with my parents.

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
im on 20 hours an its total BS, i hate it. last week i had 3000 items of junk to put through peoples doors an what do i get paid....£10.30. im sorry but how on earth can this be justified...?, im doing twice as much as a lot of the ft staff in my do an getting half the pay, it f***ing sucks big time
. heads should roll. regarding my hours, i take the overtime(who wouldnt) but rather than being asked if i want it, im EXPECTED to do it, its that bad if i ever suggest i need to finish on time im given the written rights WTF !!!, IM GIVEN A CONTRACT OF 20 HOURS, WHY SHOULD I BE EXPECTED TO COVER A 5 HOURS DELIVERY AS WELL AS 3/4 PREP IT ???.
tbh, i've given up with this company, im just biding my time untill something else comes up, which it will, it always does....good f***ing riddance royal fail, what a s**t company to work for. also, just if i ever got sniffed out on these forums i couldnt give a shat, they wouldnt stand a chance in a tribunal after all the shat i've had to take recently from my manager and what im EXPECTED to do on my 20 hour contract.....bring it on !!!.

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
agree with your coments, i am on a 25 hour week contract, and i have to prep d2ds every day for less dosh than full timers! what really dose my box in is that i am on a different walk every day, so i do way more than others in the d2d department as most in our place do a row a day, so i do one and a quarter lots per week for 12 quid.

I'm happy to work my PT hours, as I have another job that fits in perfectly with my contract. At least it used to. This park & loop b/s means that I am now working up to 2 hours over my time every day (minimum has been 40 mins over so far, and it was 2.5 hours yesterday). I queried it with a manager this morning and, while I couldn't be bothered going into his short response, the response I gave should give you an idea:
Me: "So, what you're saying is that I'm being FORCED into working over my hours."
DOM response: A nod of the head.
Me: "So, what happens if I just want to work my hours from next week on?"
DOM response: None.
Me: "I suppose I'll be seen as a trouble maker and 'him upstairs' will be gunning for me any chance he gets."
DOM response: A nod of head veiled with a sad face.
I do my job by the book in every aspect so I'm considering riding it out to see how things go next week and then demanding I work my hours only after that. Stress levels are through the roof this week because of the place.
Our DO is in turmoil with the whole thing at the minute - we have guys ready to head out on delivery but have to wait in the office for an hour and a half because the guy they're paired with doesn't start until later, people who are forced too work over their hours because deliveries have been mismatched etc. Insane and mismanaged beyond belief.

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
Welcome 10 Recordeds
Can't say I disagree with any of the points you've made
Trouble is we're a Divided workforce, bearing in mind 1500 DOs, PT v FT and that's without taking into consideration the "I'm all right Jack f**k you fraternity"
TBH Royal Fail don't give a s**t because they like the "Divide & Rule" scenario, it really needs someone like the CWU
to push it but we all know how effective they are.
Hope you're right about the ratios sorting themselves out BT2010, BUT remember that's only a National split. So in theory 3 DOs could be 100% FT and 1 DO could be completely PT
(simplistic example I know).
I've also wondered who polices the ratios on a Nationwide Basis. Suppose it's Royal Fail HR?
I agree some are happy on PT hours, the "Danish Housewives" for one
Also Taurus! Glad you can manage on it but try paying a mortgage it's a struggle. However the point is PT should be an option for those it suits, not a one size fits all!
In a country Full of Idle work Shy Benefit Scroungers a working man should have the right, if he wants it, to work and be paid for a decent weeks work.
I did say WORK not invest/bank/claim benefits & expenses/embezzle & defraud taxpayers! :dcfo :ncfo
Rant over , Have a Good Weekend you've earned it.

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
I do agree that the situation is bad for us p/timers but what are we supposed to do? Even the full timers drop us in the sh** on a regular basis in my DO. Often find that walks / d2d are not prepped cause they are sneaking off doing their own when the managers are not looking. I think the only solution is for us to leave in great numbers. RM only cares about money so until it becomes too expensive to train replacement p/timers on a regular basis then why are they going to do anything? At the moment for every person that leaves theres probably a hundred wanting to take their place!

Re: More rights for part time staff (Roal mail PT ONLY)
Part timers do not have to prep the d2d, it is now classed as normal mail, so whoever throws off your walk should throw off that days d2d too before you arrive to bag up.
In our office if its not done, we don't take it out, and we don't play catchup with it later in the week either, if it is not put out on the specific day it doesn't go at all that week. because there is no way you should be carrying more than 20% d2d per day, as its not your fault if its not thrown off.
