Just a question or two to ask all you folk,we are just going into the part of our revision where we are going to pick the duty we would like to do,we have heard and have read about the HCT dutys being a bit of a problem to do has any of you good people picked a HCT duty and found it really hard going and do things keep going wrong with the HCT's,like wheels coming of,tyres coming away,only we have heard that some offices are having a problem and would like to hear of some of the pit falls if there are any.

We've been told that HCT duties are to be assigned to walks within a certain distance of the office, the gradient has to be below a certain number of degrees, one of the walks assigned to HCT delivery looks like it will have to be cut by 2/3 to allow it to be done !!.

guys in our office have used them for years, never heard of any problems, never used 1 myself

What sort of HCT's have you got is it the new type with the steerable front wheels? or one of the older ones?the newer type look like real hard work with a mind of thier own.

I've used one once. Not experienced enough to know whether was old or new (one of the locks was taped and had to be slammed shut, if that's a clue !) but I know the walk started miles away (used to be a cycle duty) and had been extended, it WAS hard going, and it WAS a pain having to keep finding something to tether it to. Didn't help that the guy who showed me "how" to use it left one of the brakes on just enough ...

I've been using the old style HCT for couple years i'm now on my second trolley brakes were knackered on old one and it keep pulling to the left also the locks will sieze up if you don't keep them properly lubed

My walks within a mile of office (just) so worst part is pushing it to start point takes me 15-20 minutes,i tend to lock it up at end of streets and just do bundles or small bags i wouldn't say its any quicker but it takes the wieght off your back and makes job easier bit of a nightmare in snow and ice but gives you something to hold onto

Funny that keeps happening down here,can you do me a favour and ask for the faults to be put up to the Area Health And Safety Manager and can you get your Union Rep to push it up to the Health and Safety Department,we think we may have a problem nationally,thanks very much all, can you keep on telling me as the only way we can get it sorted is by all of us saying

Thanks Sussexpostie really would be helpfull if everyone who is having any problems start pushing it up we hope they will have a look into it,on ours the wheels come undone come off tyres seem to fall off as your going along and the brakes dont work when loaded on a hill you have put at an angle or use the nearest wall or tie it to something,i just cant believe that a company like Royal Mail would buy equiptment that is not as it should be and rather than do something about it blame the staff for being obstructive.

Your so right all of the staff who do the duty's with HCT's now are so flagged when they get back they dont know what to do with themselves,thats why i ask if it's worth getting into as i dont really fancy driving for a living again.

i am lead to believe all HTC walks will be limited to 3.5 hours after the change overs is that correct

If that is correct then sombody forgot to tell our union rep and planner, our HCT dutys are all 4h 20m give or take 5min acording to..... wait for it GO route

But most are failing and some are now using bipper vans instead
