Dear Colleague

We are writing in response to this week’s announcements and communications from Royal Mail.

The Union does not accept that Royal Mail’s plan is in accordance with the Business Transformation Agreement, including the overarching objective of avoiding compulsory redundancies. We made this clear to Royal Mail as part of a recent process overseen by the independent Chair and ACAS.

We have written to the company this week offering them an opportunity to jointly develop an alternative plan that will meet all the requirements of the Business Transformation Agreement.

However, we have told Royal Mail that unless they confirm in writing before the end of this week, that they will take no unilateral action in any affected offices and will instead engage in fresh talks on an alternative plan then the Union will commence an industrial action ballot. Furthermore, we will mount an external publicity campaign with politicians, businesses, influential customers and interested groups to highlight both our own concerns and the criticisms of Royal Mail’s plans, recently published in an independent report.

Given the significant number of employees involved and based on a detailed examination of Royal Mail’s People Plan, which is completely different to any other previous rationalisation process, we believe that if Royal Mail press ahead regardless – it will inevitably lead to compulsory redundancies. This is unacceptable.

Your job security remains the Union’s number one priority. By contrast Royal Mail’s decision to tell the media first demonstrates their priority was to bury other bad news on Colleagueshare, rather than treat their employees with the respect you deserve.

By supporting the Union we will achieve a better outcome for everybody and ensure no compulsory redundancies. We will keep you informed of further developments.

Royal Mail will jump at the chance for more talks with the CWU they're probably thinking wooohooo lets screw our workers even more with the help of the union. Was that letter meant to worry royal mail or get them excited?

brill, another "deal of the century" coming, although folk in my d.o reckoned they couldnt line up the title on the agreement A4 PAPER, using microsoft word, it really read "Worst deal of the century

folks am not bein horrible for sayin this,but am i f@@@ walkin out to support london.they done f all to support our area when we closed our mailcentre.and also its the mail centres fault we have got this stupid agreement in the first place.how the f@@@ can you ballot mailcentre staff on delivery methods and d2ds when they dont touch them.they only voted yes coz they seen the payment of the d2d

MC staff don't get the delivery suplement! no d2d payments for them!!!
Most members work in delivery we were not out voted by MC members!

They don't get the delivery suplement, or any money from d2d!
They had existing allowances, any new allowances were funded from that not our money.

Fact 1:

There are 160,000 member of the CWU in the Postal Department.

Fact2 :

Over 100,000 of them are on deliveries.

Fact 1 + Fact 2 means deliveries will ALWAYS out vote the rest of the Postal Section combined.

Fact 3:

We Get a £20.60 Delivery Supplement

They ballotted indoor staff because the whole BT2010 agreement covered ALL FUNCTIONS. Ok you disagree with us coming out for London as you see and thats your right, and you see it MCs as getting a better deal again thats OK. But you could at least base those opnions on fact and not what you heard.

We were balloted as a whole union as we always are.
The extra money your mates are getting i don't see were they are getting it from, but certainly as far as i am aware it's not from d2d.
maybe one of the MC poster could tell us.

Maisymoo, if you want to point the finger of blame, there is a massive number of people who do actually deserve your anger.

That's right, the ones who couldn't even be bothered to vote when they had the chance to reject this 'deal of the century'.

FACT 5: 53,000 PEOPLE DID NOT RETURN A BALLOT PAPER

Just remember that a significant percentage of those who are moaning about the consequences of the Yes vote are probably ones who didn't vote at all .

2mins of a person's time to put a X on a ballot paper and post it, and they can't be @rsed. Yet the consequences of not enough No votes being returned will affect them for the rest of their working days at RM. They're are the ones who make me

Let me just play devils advocate for a moment. The CWU talk to RM and reach a compromise over the closures and redundancies which meets everyones aspirations.........not really likely but who knows. The CWU ballot London and achieve a yes vote for strike action which RM ignore and it drags on for 17 days as it did last time without any resolution. The CWU then declare a national ballot which does not achieve a yes vote and leaves them in a very precarious position in having to settle at a disadvantage eventually.
