Booking of overtime

Post by deadbox »

How do other offices handle the booking of O/T ?

In my D.O. we have to declare how much O/T that we need First. This usualy leads to an arguement over traffic levels / not preping fast enough, because of this most people don't bother asking & indeed going over their time

If you try to book it the next day they tell you you should have declared it yesterday and sometimes say that they are not going to pay it.

We have a fair few "runners" & weak people who won't challange the managers....even postmen that do stand up to the managers are laughed at by other posties with comments like "just get on with it" & "Lazy Bas***d" which gives the managers even more support

What happens in your office ?

just cut off and say well i'm not doing it for less than it's worth after all it's of benefit to them as much as you or the screws will end up doing it and they hate that if every one did the same bet the attitude would change a little , no such thing as swings and roudabouts either , stick to your guns never mind the arse**les who suck up to them

always inform a manager what you are not able to take, then leave it in the office, you don't bring mail back to the office after you have gone on delivery, it would only leave yourself open to a charge of wilful delay.

In my office when you have finished your duty, over hours. You fill in a docket stating why and how many hours claiming. I thought this was the norm in offices? Then again when you get your wageslip week later you see he hasn,t paid it :mad Then you have to question him?

advise dom b4 leaving u cant complete , this normally starts a row and we argue between ourslves about prep time and trafic and all that happens is we waste time so even more of the delivery is left behind !!!

Or office seems a lot friendlier than everyone elses. If I think I might not finish in time, I either write my name on the excess sheet or tell a manager I may not be able to complete in time. If you deliver it all they aren't that bothered if you book excess - obviously without being excessive! I often put my name down and finish on time anyway so I book zero minutes but we do have to tell them before we go because apparently they have to give an estimate of the OT to somebody at about 10am - I don't know who.
