2011 & Beyond!

Post by Wild Rover »

Why are revisions - which are, and will continue to do - still occuring? The money being used up on this "scheme"(vans, tools, planners et al) is contributing to the downfall of RM as we know it, and its "modernisation plan".*

Furthermore, why, as a company for sale, are we even modernising? The current unworkable revisions are not a selling point - they are indeed the opposite. Would you buy a broken plaything?

I have remained with the CWU since the previous two strikes. The second strike we had RM by the testicles, but backed down, gave in and ALL can see the mess we're in now. The CWU believed this latest "Busines Plan" to be a good comprimise. Have they now within themselves to admit they screwed it? Will they agree with anything RM says now?

*modernisation - words first mentioned by Mssrs Crozier & Leighton - didn't we get far? Not!!!

I can't see the logic of this, either.

Let's pretend for a second that RM's Modernisation Plan was running on time, achieving tons of cost-savings, and making the business super-efficient :left: By the time the legislation had cleared all the hurdles, and the company was actually put up for sale, what's in it for the potential buyer(s) ?

Usually, when one company acquires another, the rationale behind the merger is to squeeze extra profit out of the acquired company, by slashing costs, slashing jobs and doing things more efficiently and at lower cost. I just don't see what margin there is for TNT, DHL or whoever buys RM if all of that process had already taken place.

Oh sh!t, I just realised. The UK taxpayer would have incurred the costs of making all those changes, just so that some Dutch or German buyer can reap all the benefit, at no cost to themselves.

Call me cynical, but don't be surprised if some ex-ministers land nice well-paid jobs after they leave office, on the board of whoever buys RM :mad

The u.k tax payer will be paying 'in part' for the changes but don't forget the savings R.M are accruing in snatching away our o.t. etc.

To save money in our office part timers have been stopped from coming in to flex up in the mornings resulting in there being an extra 11 jobs to prep between the regulars, which in turn means that there are less people to sort.

Come the summer when things go 'quiet!!!' there's talk of shaving another hundred hours a week -I make that 4 x 25 hours, or put another way, 4 part timers. Which in turn will lead to another 4 jobs being absorbed.

my guess is, get the vans in, get P&L working effectivly, sell the DOs and move us to rented units on industrial estates.

thoughts?

As long as they've got the minimum amount of us doing the maximum amount of work I think the method etc matters little. Good business sense to minmize the workforce except that they're modeling the ratio on the 'get back quick' merchants. Those who don't realise that by 'running' the round and going home at 11 o'clock they're playing into their hands.
