Is NO Saturday Deliveries part of the new business plan?

I was speaking to a DOM at a different DO and he mentioned that there would be no Saturday deliveries when his revision went in.

I thought nothing of it as just another DOM not knowing his arse from his........anyway could this be part of "The new Business Plan?

If so there will compulsory redundancies. It's not looking good if this is true!

A Dom cannot end Saturday deliveries, a dsm cannot end Saturday deliveries, Moya Greene cannot end saturday deliveries, only the regulator and a act of parliament can end Saturday deliveries, and a five day week does not mean no Saturday deliveries, as has been said many times on here, tuesday is much more likely to go than Saturday, unless RM go for the Dutch model and only do three deliveries a week.

Tuesday? Personally, I cannot for the life of me see the sense in that.
But, this is Royal Mail, and axing Tuesday, rather than Saturday, would be in keeping for a company becoming increasingly a worse place to work.

Think what is the lightest day, and then think what is the heaviest day. Saturday heaviest day in our office, and I think most others, so will not stop deliveries on heaviest day.

I expect Monday and Tuesday would be shoved into one day - Tuesday being the most logical - which would mean bye-bye to Monday working and the creation of an artificial 'real' weekend for postal workers, albeit a day later than other workers. Whether the five-day workload would be manageable with all days becoming heavier because of the knock-on effect, I don't know. By some of the stories posted on here (maybe even by me!), I would suggest that there would be an issue with managing said workload. But one thing is for sure, all floaters would immediately become redundant, giving Royal Mail the leverage to remove 1/6th of the shop-floor staff immediately (and that, longer term, is where privatisation will allow for significant job cuts).

i cant see a week day going TBH, buisness want mail daily through the week and i would have thought that should a day be dropped it would be saturday.

sat was the quietest day until not so long ago, its only RM manipulating the mail that has made tues quieter, plus mailsort and d2ds.

It's not the recipients that call the shots though BT...it's the senders and the majority of advertisers and bulk mailers want their "goodies" hitting your mat on the day they think you are most likely to read it...Saturday.

they wont get rid of any day because that just leaves the door open for a competitor to take advantage. saturdays will stay because that is one of the only advantages we have over competitors, also postcom need to agree for any major changes and i think (i might be wrong) royal mail have recently signed something with postcom over pricing and delivery targets and think this stays for a couple of years at least.

Think what wouldn't be a light day any longer, once Saturday was done away with.
Saturday is no way near being our heaviest day. Wednesday is our heaviest, then it decreases gradually on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday is the lightest at tail-end of week.
