Hi all, I am a new office rep and am seeking advice on were I can get help. Since taking over the job i have received no communication at all from the CWU as regards my role .NO EMAILS , NO LETTERS , no phone calls, absolutely nothing. Who do i contact when i have a legal question ? I have twice contacted the branch secretary, whose advice has twice been against what the law states so i have lost all faith in him. I had to seek further advice from ACAS and the citizens advice who told me i had a case. So we proceeded and won.
I have phoned up the Legal department who put me through to a solicitor who tells me they cant advise on Employment matters. They gave me the Legal Services number who fail continually to phone me back .CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHO I PHONE FOR LEGAL ADVICE ?Its a complete joke that i have to tell members that i have to phone Acas or the Citizens Advice for information . This site helps greatly but i would like a voice at the end of a line to confirm i am proceeding properly.

Welcome to the CWU, and dog that now has no teeth, i was you around two years ago, have now given up after being let down countless times, such a shame as i was full of beans like you are now and wanted to fight the good fight, i hope you fare better than me but alas i doubt it brother

I have contacted the guy over my area The Branch Secretary whose advice was wrong on two occasions. I also contacted one of the Divisional reps by email, 4 weeks ago and i am still awaiting a response. As i have received absolutely no communication i am also not quite sure of the whole structure of who`s who.

Area rep works for me all the time. Good for advice before you put your foot in it ! and a local rep in same line of work helped a great deal till you find your feet . good luck

Says it all about the CWU! but good luck in your rep's role--I'm sure the people you represent are at least grateful yo you ! and of course, as you've found out, lots of good info comes from this site!-

Thats pretty appalling behaviour from your fellow reps there!
It usually goes ; Rep - Area Rep (or sub)- Divisional Rep(or sub)
Not really been past Div Rep so im not sure who comes after that.I use branch just as much as the above but it sounds like they're not comin thru for you ( to say the least ).
To get the attention of the guys who should be doin they're job id go on the CWU website,find the email adress of department head (Indoor,Outdoor,Processing etc) and email him/her.State that you've tried to contact divisional reps but to no avail.They hate bein bothered by Office Reps and and will soon get things movin id guess ! lol

Matt as stated above you will deal with area delivery rep and area safety rep for issues involving the employer.
For internal CWU stuff you port of call is the branch sec.
