Is it acceptable and fair that someone with a signed duty can opt out of it when they choose and cherry pick a better delivery forcing a reserve to do their now spare duty? This has happened to a colleague on more than one occasion with a particular person at their DO. The unbeknownst reserve then comes into the DO and moves right down the s**t ladder.

IE, 'easyish' delivery needs covering because of annual leave and the assigned duty holder (cover duty) of another round asks to be put on that and the said reserve moved onto theirs so they can snap up what they like.

in theory, that should not happen.

the only reason it should happen, is, if the reserve [or floater] for the 'easier' duty, isn't available and the only other option is to get someone who 'know' the duty, and it happens to be the guy off the signed for duty.

your mate should speak to his rep to get it clarified, or put the question in writing to the lino [keep a copy] and ask for a written response.

if you hold a set floating duty(eg you signed for it at a revision) then its your duty
so I would say this is my duty and thats it
same goes when a duty holder wants to work their day off. its touch titty and they can work another duty unless it suits the floater
if however you are simply a reserve who covers any duty then theres little you can do

the reserve was the person shat on, the cover duty was the one who cherry picked. But you are quite correct

In my DO, its the rep that does the cherry picking or moves his buddies to the easier duty. Then he acts if he is doing me (or the other p/t) a favour by giving us one of their driving duty. Needless to say i've stopped accepting his 'favours'.
