1 in 4 Saturadys off
Like most of the people in my office i was under the assumtion that this deal guaranteed us at least 1 in 4 saturdays off. Now our gaffer is telling us that this is not the case and that it is only an option and we will only get it were possible, its not guaranteed! I am a reserve so that means im gonna be working til 3pm every saturday ad never getting a weekend off. Any other offices got this problem?

Re: 1 in 4 Saturadys off
It was all a smoke screen mate. We have been royally shafted by all. 1 in 4 saturdays was part of the delivery methods along with more 4 day weeks, park and loop etc. Unfortunately so was longer delivery spans. We have been told that the delivery methods part of the agreement is not workable so therefore the above mentioned things dont count anymore except wait for it THE LONGER DELIVERY SPANS. So we get longer delivery spans (out for longer in the winter and summer) with none of the other benefits first mentioned in the agreement.

Re: 1 in 4 Saturadys off
we are in the process of having a delivery methods revision, as part of this we had a preference exercise to establish which day off pattern people wanted, all going well so far..........only problem was 50% of people didn't bother retuurning their form, of the other 50% the majority voted to keep rotating day off.
so no innovative duty structures here either! we've got the longer delivery spans though.

They lied, what they really wanted, and easily got, was our Saturdays, all our Saturdays, treated like any other normal day in Hell. Lovely. And remind me, what did we get in return? Oh, yeah...Sweet fook all.

Re: 1 in 4 Saturadys off
It's NOT down to the manager what kind of duty patterns you get it is down to what your figures throw out and how hard the rep and the office work in getting what they want.
I repeat again,IT IS NOT DOWN TO THE MANAGER!
And another thing just because you are a reserve it does not mean you get shafted with weekends off, again that is down to the rep and the office to work out a reserve rota system so it is more fairer.
I repeat that again,JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A RESERVE IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU GET SHAFTED WITH WEEKENDS OFF...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Yes,most of us on this forum have all been very foolish in thinking this was a fantastic deal all this time,if only we'd listened to Dingo, who warned us all along that it was a crock of shite!

Re: 1 in 4 Saturadys off
Sadly, a sizeable minority at DOs still work as if Pay & Mod 2007 and BT 2010 Beyond never existed and that SDD rules forever! Whilst I, and many others, would love to turn the clock back to the 'old days' that is not an option any more. The current transformation would be happening irrespective of whether the CWU was involved or not, irrespective of whether RM was financially in the black or red. OPGs need to support their Reps in extracting the best deal from the mess of P&M and BT 2010, and not rely solely on the Rep winning a deal for them! Naturally, DOMs will seek the easiest option for themselves if allowed to get away with it. Insisting that the job is done properly, insisting that health and safety is kept as number one priority, insisting that annual leave, duties and rest day allocation etc is made fair to all and not just the favoured few is something for the whole Unit to take on board. The Rep, no matter how good he might be, still requires the support of colleagues to ensure that RM honour the Agreements at local, if not at national level.
There was much about BT 2010 that left OPGs in the dark as to what the likely outcome of the deal would be. Too many 'ifs, buts, could-bes, maybes' were left open to interpretation and personally I felt 'one in 4 saturdays off' was certainly one section of the deal that was never fully understood by, or sufficiently explained to, the membership at ballot time. Not all members are hardline supporters of CWU and enthusiastic in seeking information, the majority expect to have the information supplied in plain English and resent having to chase after it! 'That is what I pay my subs for!' is frequently used in such circumstances and is difficult to argue against in such circumstances.
The fact that we are now nearly 12 months' into BT 2010 and there are many who seek answers to questions is testament to the weakness of the Agreement. However, there is nothing to stop Units inviting Area Reps etc to meetings to explain aspects of BT 2010 if the need is there - that is an important function of Senior Reps today. The structure of the CWU allows for ordinary members to have concerns, questions and interpretations addressed. Area Reps, Divisional Reps and National Officers are there to advise on issues. Use them to extract the best possible deal for your Unit.
