hi there i would loke to no if any of u would no any news when royalmail will go private ? because i would like to work for royal mail as soon as if they do go private do u think they will take on more staff? cheers steve

Unfortunately, as soon as RM are privatised there will be job losses, not recruitment. It will not be a better company to work for in private hands, nor will the service improve. Simple economics will take over, if it doesn't make the owners money, it will be scraped, whether it is the USO or 'excess' staff.

It's hard to believe, I know, but I can still remember when I worked in the private sector....minimum wage, no union, much less a decent union rep, no rights, put up or shut up, don't like it then leave attitude. Compared to RM it's ........pretty much the same actually (except the decent union rep).

i mean if we think Royal mail is rough at the moment... whats it going to be like when there are more job cuts, more work put on every duty, further reduction in hours...

even if it does get privatised... and the union still retains any sort of negotiating power when it comes to agreements at a national or local level.... its still going to be the union against a large firm that will (as we have seen during past strikes) happilly employ casuals at a lot less than the pittance it pays any of us... that will work longer hours and be non union.

...and any time we even think about industrial action they will threaten the Government with pulling out and leaving the country with no postal service...so any time they run to the courts to block the union they will be met with an even more helpful judicial system than you would think possible.

As soon as the USO goes, then RM with be privatised. I believe that the USO is the only thing standing in the way atm. Any company that would consider buying us takes one look at the USO and thinks "f**k that!" That as perhaps the pension deficit lol.
