annual leave, are we being robbed days!!

someone in the office spotted what appears to be a blatant attempt at conning people out of annal leave entitlement on our a/l forms, its been done to everyone thats on a nine day fortnight. now if you dont know what a 9 day fornight is, i,ll explain. its run over a 4 week period, 1st week, day off mon, 2nd week tues, 3rd week wed & thurs,4th week fri & sat. so effectively you are off a total of 6 days a month, (fri, sat, sun, mon) being part of it. ok, now thats settled. the lad noticed on our a/l forms that they are using our rostered days off as part of our a/l entitlement. for example, my entitlement is 23days. my first holiday is a fortnight off w/c 16/05/2011 and w/c 23/05/2011. the dom has put on my form 6 days for my 1st week, and 6 days for my second week. the thing is,on my first week my rostered days off are wed & thurs, and my 2nd week my rostered days off are fri & sat. so he is using my days off as part of my annual leave. surely this cant be right?? can it?? this means 4 of my days off are being used up on annual leave. he has also done it on my remaining 11 days a/l that i,m due to take w/c12/09/2011 and w/c 19/09/2011. he,s got me down for 6 days first week, but my rostered days off that week are fri & sat, and the second week he,s got me down for 5 days(mon to fri) with my day of that week being the monday. this means they are using another 3 days of my rostered off days as annual leave. meaning all in all. my annual leave entitlement has dropped 7days in total to 16 days from the original 23. can ANY union reps on here clarify if this is what seems to be an absolute con. as i say he,s done it to all the 9 day fornight lads. dingo? fishtank? big daz? clash? 23 days holiday equates to 184 hours holiday on a standard 8 hour day, for the alternate duty structures all you do is basically divide that 184 by the number of hours you now work per day to give you the number of days off you are entitled to

Sounds like a crazy work pattern. Annual leave should technically be calculated on a weekly basis, ie you are entitled to 4.6 weeks leave. This would then be divided up using your work pattern, so if you work 5 day weeks then you'll get 23 days, a 4 day week would be 18.4 days. Given your work pattern, it would be fair to say that you work 4.5 days a week, so you'd get 20.7 days a year. As zx135 has said, it's probably easier to work it out using hours rather than days.
