How long can Managers drag out a disciplinary?

I can't go into too much detail on here, without risking giving away my identity. But my Manager is "investigating" myself and a colleague, for what he claims was unacceptable, and threatening behaviour (against each other). For weeks now. We've had our "fact finding" interviews, early on. But neither of us have heard anything since. How long can this go on, before the Manager has to take things further, or clear us?

My mate over in Runcorn waited 10 weeks to hear if he was going to get done for riding a bike without a helmet. He said he would go off with stress. The manager told him there was no such thing as stress and gave him a two year suspended dismissal which was kicked out on appeal. The manager involved has been off with stress for two months. Two months for an illness he said doesn't exist.

That sounds about right. One rule for the Managers, and another for us!

So who gets to decide how long that is?
Are we talking months or years?

Were there lots of witnesses?

That would maybe cause a delay, if one of them is off sick or whatever.

Also have you had the notes of interview back?

The notes would perhaps show the exact disciplinary angle that is being followed.

There were half a dozen witnesses but all have been in work.
I've had the notes back, signed, and given em back, weeks ago. But there was nothing to tell me what he was planning to do when he got em back. It's like he's just trying to make me sweat.
