What are my rights?

Hi there, not been on here for a while but it's nice to see it's still going! Anyway onto my point, at my office I am one of the longest serving 24 hour contract staff (just under 4 years), the past 2 years I have just been getting moved from duty to duty each week and sometimes different duties each day, this also means that I haven't been getting my rolling days off i.e Monday one week, Tuesday the next. I have had about 2 rota saturdays off in the past 2 years due to not being allocated duties that have the saturday - monday days off, my questions are, is it a right of mine to have 1 saturday off in 6? and also does the seniority rule apply down to the part time staff or is it just the full timers?

Yes seniority works the same for part timers as well.

As for the 1 in 6...
You should have a rota of some sort where it shows what days off you have had so you could point out those reserves that haven't had a sat off.
It's not an official thing just common sense.

That doesn't work in my office it's the same people that get the cream and the same people that get sour milk.

If others in your office get the long wekend off, you can appeal. This happened to me when we had a revision.about the time of SDD, and I lost my walk, and my long weekend, etc. you cannot claim discrinination, but you can state this 'loss' is detrimental' to you, compared to others, I did this and had my rotating days, and long weekend re-instated, good luck, and fight them!

put in a 1st stage grievance ,its discrimination by a mile . i was in same boat as you no long weekends in over a year etc . If you dont stand up for youreself ,they will just keep treating you like rubbish

You can only quote' discrimination' on grounds of sex, religion age etc, which is why I advise the word detrimental---it's an accepted term in employment issues--and again, having been through the same myself, this is how I 'won' back my previously established rights!

We do get paid to "do the ips and throw their rounds up"...you do know that don't you?
They don't get paid for their "lie in".
Are you volunteering to give up your full-time hours to a part-timer?

At my DO pt (25hr) staff work 4hr 50min weekdays & 5hr 50 min on Saturdays. Saturdays being the longest day.

As long as they are getting 1 in 6 sats off they getting paid for the hours they do. If they get less than 1 in 6 off they are essentially working 1hr for free every 6 weeks....so make sure u get ur 1 in 6 saturdays off.

excuse me but hes only getting paid 24 hrs full timers get paid 40 hrs WHY SHOULDNT HE GET a long weekend the jobs stressful enough

Just because I work 24 hours does this mean I am not entitled to a long weekend? You sound just like my manager , believe me if full time hours were available at my office I would take them, it's people like you that we don't need to comment.
