Best piece of advice I could give you, is wake up and smell the coffee, enzio.
This union is utter and complete shyte, and has gone out of its way to make the postie's job what it is today.....A fookin' nightmare. :cuppa

Depends what course.
Postal procedures takes you through Attendance Procedure, Conduct Code and MTSF (though that needs to be a month course on its own)
Union skills is how to represent your members.
Diversity is what it says on the tin.

Expect a good teacher. Expect to take notes. Expect a bit of role play.
Expect someone to say - what's wrong with calling them girls?

If you are lucky there will be reps from other places and other functions. That's an education in itself.
Expect to feel like s**t when you have to go back to your DO.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

So what do YOU suggest? :hmmmm
Give up, and hope for the best? :d'oh!
There are plenty of us, who're willing to stick with the Union, and try to get good, reliable, Reps in place. Thankfully, we already have good Reps where I am. But if we didn't, we'd find someone who was, rather than go quietly into the night. :hmmmm

Or perhaps you think that you can fight your own battles, without the aid of a Union. How exactly would you propose doing that? :hmmmm
Unions can arrange for official ballots, without facing disciplinary action. If on the other hand, you were to arrange any kind of action amongst yourselves. It would be UNOFFICIAL action, and therefore illegal. Yes, I know we've had more than our fair share of unofficial IA in RM. But if the instigators are found, then action can, and will, be taken against them by RM. We all know it. And if it has a particularly good effect on RM, and you don't have a National Union to back you up. Then you'll no doubt be sacked and replaced. Think about it. :d'oh! :arrrghhh

Don't bother Andy, waste of time! Oh and by the way,the only people responsible for making the job shite is certain post people. Management the reps can deal with. Thats why we have a day off as minimum and a paid meal relief unlike other firms.Members f****d up...not reps. The amount of times directors have given us evidence of members finishing times is embarrassment. Not one senior rep can answer that one.

Yes other offices are suffering because no one wants the reps job,(because of w*****s/members) who say the job is s**t because they want to finish early etc etc like they used to "back in the old days". The "old days" being on £70 a week and working 6 days you mean?

Errrr, after a fashion. The poor sap on the frontline has had to implement the CWU's atrocious so-called "deals", and the lamentable "deal of the century" is just the latest in what is becoming quite a long line of atrocious deals.
Thanks in the main, to the CWU, the postie's lot is far from a happy one.

Dearie me.
It wasn't the members that inexplicably surrendered to every demand made by management, it was the CWU hierarchy.
A truth that is hard to stomach, I admit, but nobody can deny that the membership solidly supported every strike. It was the CWU hierarchy that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, time, and time again, not the members. :cuppa

I understand your point drb,i really do but you've gone too far the other way mate.
The members are not solely responsible for the deterioration of our terms and conditions although i will admit they have played their part.
Don't forget that job&finish was sold to the members by our employers with the full knowledge,if not participation of the union,it was not the members idea...all three parties were fine with the arrangement to start with.It was only when Royal Mail started making cuts off the back of those early finishes that the union cried foul.
Like private cars on delivery,it was a subject the union could not quite make it's mind up on.
As far as no-one wanting to be a rep...it is as much lack of support from above as it is lack of support on the floor that makes people think twice.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Directors? Directors??
God's teeth! Wouldn't each and every one of us love to experience a typical "working" day for that workshy shower? Methinks, we all would. :cuppa
Did no "senior rep", not a single one, take that workshy shower of shyte to task over THEIR hours of, errrr, "work"?
Over the years, we have had more than one, a good deal more than one, director who did little more than a couple of hours a day, a couple of days a week.
And time and again, our "senior reps" allow the boardroom parasites to insult, slander, talk down, the hard work and professionalism of postal workers, people who whatever time they make out of the job, still do a damn sight more than your typical common or garden Royal Mail director/parasite. :evil/mad

Sheesh!!! :cuppa
