DOM has requested/instructed that when completed census forms have been posted back in mail collection boxes that we have to take them out an keep them seperate from any other mailings and to put them into what I presume will be empty mail trays in the callers office after completion of deliveries. Surely this could be construed as delaying or tampering with the mail which in itself is a criminal offence. Wondering what are your thoughts on this matter.

Are you sure that RM have not been instructed to hold these back brother for special treatment at the M/C?

In addition arrangements will also need to be put in place at Mail Centres to be able to handle the despatch and return of the items especially with regard to the use of Flat Sorting Machines (FSM). A key part of Royal Mail winning the contract was the company’s ability to scan item barcodes on the FSM so that the Office for National Statistics know which addresses have replied.

That may be the case brother fishtank, but I always thought that when items were posted into a mail collection box then the postie who cleared it simply emptied the contents of that box straight into a bag and that was that after of course scanning the bar code.

They shouldn't be pulled out/seperated in the street or even in the back of the van.

You should'nt be getting any census forms in the office until at least 28th, as they should be completed on the 27th only............but of course we know most of the public will post them as soon they've received them. I think I remember reading somewhere that the MC had to hang onto the forms not the DO's.

Lots coming back already marked RTS, Gone Away, Not known, etc. Seems a lot of people don't want to fill them out.
I think these will be returned to the DOs for endorsement by the Delivery Postie.

Any getting returned to me will just be re-delivered and I will continue to do so until I'm told otherwise by my DOM, the only ones I'll be endorsing are those ones that are inacessible.
