CWU people see more of the public streets in the UK, probably more than any other groups of workers; whether that be fixing or installing your Superfast Broadband in Virgin Media, correcting a fault on your phone line, as part of BT Openreach, delivering your parcels or the workers who deliver the mail.

Our people, in carrying out their work each day, will pick up the rolling of thunder of discontent as what is meant by the term “the rolling back the state” (aka the Big Society).

The shock and awe approach of the Government to cuts in public spending seemed at first to take away the voice of those who would be most impacted . We are all in this together with a dash of racism as a side dish, attacking multiculturism

Facts are awkward things, the economy shrinks by .6%, youth unemployment is over 20% - almost 1 million young people, repossessions are forecast to rise by 11%, inflation rises. Real wages are falling by 12% in four years, according to the Governor of the Bank of England.

So much laughter – in the Banks, as bonuses of £10 million are paid out – The Comedy Store.

On Saturday March 26th the TUC is asking the British people to join their demonstration. This rally is in response to the government’s programme of fast and deep public spending cuts.
