household prob/advice.....again!!

hi all, yet again another question for advice regarding the dreaded dooor to doors.... i am on a 30 hour contract, having reduced my fulltime hours... anyhow last week with the census forms and all the council tax mail we had i did not have time to do my leaflets, 5 lots i may add!! i finished my walk on time, not early and went over the odd day... my manager now says i will have to carry the households over to next week along with the ones we get over the weekend, surley this is wrong?.... so i could have a possible 10!! my rep says my manager can do this, but i dont think its right... anyone with any real advice or have been in my situation can you help me out please.... i dont want to work over my time... i struggle with the 6 hours i have to do my walk, the leaflets and absortion, its just not enough time... my day off today and i know tomorrow he will have a go at me....

Should've just stuck the leaflets in last week and let the manager worry about you cutting off. He'd soon have found someone to help you then!

yeah still in a job! but by the time i prepped my mail just had no time to prepp households as well, and i shudnt have to work over, i have never cut off or brought mail back, surly getting the mail deliverd comes first and formost before the households...?

D2Ds are classed as live mail now, you prep them and deliver them when you're meant to. If you don't have time to complete your delivery, you tell your manager. Or, ask him beforehand what he wants you to do- is he going to get someone to take some of the round for you to give you time to prep the D2Ds with the other increased workload, or is he going to get someone to prep them for you?

Households ARE mail you can't just decide they are not and leave them.
A lesson learned hopefully, Could argue the Dom being reasonable by not conducting you.

Come on, its the DOM's responsibility to be aware that these D2D aren't going out and start asking questions WHY! Our DOM gets us to sign we're doing them EACH day so he knows there being done. Some DOMS were sacked(??) not long ago over this!

Postman and April are correct, all you have to do is prep everything and then discuss with your manager what is to happen if you cannot complete, let him make the decision.
BTW D2Ds are now classed as 'live mail' and failing to deliver them may result in a case of wilful delay so I would never leave them because I didn't have enough time.

I think that the OP made the same error that a lot do to be honest, and if we keep doing it we are making the managers job easier - do we want that.

The simple error was that he made the decision not to do the D2Ds and now he will suffer for it. Hopefully this will be a salutory lesson for everyone, including me.

If you want to make a decision thats fine but get it ratified and agreed by the Manager I would rather they made the decision after all thats the reason they get paid more than me.

If you cant get the mail sorted into the frame in time: Seek Direction from the manager.
If you cant prep the D2D into the frame in time: Seek Direction from the manager,
If you cant get out to the delivery on time. Seek direction from the manager.
If you cant get the delivery done in your working hours. Seek direction from the manager.
If your bags are late: Seek direction from the manager.
If the coffee machines are bust - well you must see the pattern by now.

You watch your back buddy. If DOM has a go at you tomorrow it may be wise to swallow the bollocking this time. He knows he has made a mistake but so have you, but if the sh@t hits the fan over the items you left in last week i think the DOM will save his own arse and do you for willfull delay. Will be your word against his.
Take it as a learning curve and dont fall into the "not got time to complete" mentallity and making decisions that will ultimately cost you your job.
Get used to asking manager to make the decisions for you, thats what they're paid for.

Try this one - did a row of o/t yesterday - the top row of the frame - went round to check out the location etc and was met with the following "words" - "Can you do the D2Ds as well - they've not been done because of the census etc etc.... I've not prepped them but you can do them 'in the hand' eh ?"

Top row should have been done on Monday/Tuesday ...

The "words" came from .......... a "fellow" postie ..........

I didn't do 'em ....
