IPS & testing

Hi they are testing people in our office for accuracy on the IPS,
my querry is can someone who has never been trained on IPS and only does it now and again be tested?
If not what is his response when asked to be tested?

In a word 'YES!' obviously the score would need to take the various factors into account but if its part of your duty then they can set a standard for it and thus test you for it.

In the good old days we where tested properly after a weeks training. Inward and outward sorting. Test was 20 mins and you where expected to do 500 items plus, with a very low missort count to pass.
Last time i was tested about 4 year ago it was only for a 1 minute spell. The line manager had to check the items in the frame as no OPG would do it for him.
He didn't have a clue on IPS anyway so basically looked at the top opal on the first 5 or 10 items to check then counted the rest to pass us. We where tested on letters and flats.

We have special cards here with all the roads, firms etc on them and the correct walk/firm number printed on the back. The trainer usually does the testing (got to earn that what £30? for doing something!) but manager sometimes steps in. No big deal really. If you 'fail' then they re-test you in a month and if you fail again they they errrr , errrr, forget about it Have known people to get approx. 130ish wrong but as nothing seems to be enforced no postie really takes it seriously.

We have been told recently that there would be consequences for 'failing' but who knows

Why would a manager test someone they knew 100% was going to fail?

Surely the question is why can they not pass or what support /training do they need
to reach the required minimum standard

No..that question was answered in the original post.

If you get told your going to be count tested , just tell them they are wasting their time because you suffer from yips ( dartitis ) . It's a recognised condition and the symptoms are performance anxiety . Eric Bristow suffered with it , he couldn't let go of is dart .



Six-time world champion Steve Davis revealed he had also suffered with the 'yips' during his career and said it was difficult to keep under control.

"You have to deal with it in the spur of the moment, you have to have a plan B and use your grit and determination to get through the day," he told BBC Sport.

Even Steve Davis knows there as to be a plan b .

If you say you have the `yips` you could hold on to the same letter and put it in and out of the fitting 100 times in one minute.

IPS TESTING IS:

If a manager thinks you are under performing then he can do a one minute check ... if you meet the standard but wernt hitting it before the test he can remind you of your ability to reach standard and expect you to maintain that in future ... if you fail to pass the test then that makes it more difficult for the manager as he then has to offer you support to reach standard eg... work place coach to teach you your role, ask you the usual 'is everything ok at home?' do you need atos referral all that stuff?? it is unlikely anyone will be sacked ... it should be used as a supportive tool ... a manager tried it on me i passed the test (only just ;)

When exactly do they do this extra training? At most offices you barely get time for a shite, let alone extra training!!!
