Breaks during work - sorry!

Apologies if this has been gone over already but I am unable to find a definitive answer.

I work on a 24 hour contract working 4 days of 6 hours a day. During that 6 hours I prep the mail and D2D on the walk I have been allocated then deliver it. I have no official start time or finish time in my contract but generally I start work at 7am and finish at 1pm. I also have to carry out absorbtion.

I have never taken a break as I did not think I was entitled to one. I have today discovered I should be entitled to a 30 minute break.

In all of my previous jobs outside of Royal Mail I was allocated breaks in my shifts but it was made clear in my contract that they were unpaid which I accepted.

Do Royal Mail staff get paid breaks and is there anywhere that confirms it? If true I have just spent nearly 3 years working unpaid even though my line manager would have been aware that I was doing so.

I start at 7 and finish around half 1 (32 hour contract) everyday i have 20 minute break at 8.50 (8.20 on Saturday) then i take the remaining ten minutes at the end of the shift. What time do other people in your office take breaks? Please tell me they do

In all fairness, it's not up to your manager, and definitely not in their interests(!) to tell you what breaks you are due.

All the part-timers in our office, including me, convert their breaks into a reduced finish time where possible (i.e 1.30-1.40 instead of 2). Would your manager be amenable to that after three years?

Maybe ive got it wrong but are you telling him to claim all those breaks he missed ????

i got a bloke his book through time a manager refused to pay. a tidy sum, 2 years worth, you can either lie down and die or have a go, nothing to lose.
