office changes

Post by andrew11 »

Could any one tell me if 4 day weeks and nine day fortnights can work in the same office,my thoughts where if full time were on 9 day fortnight, and part time could be on 4 day week say 34hrs,the daily hours would be about the same but management say they will only want one method.Has anyone got more than one in their office?

Will move this to 2010 forum.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

It can be operationally tricky to have mutiple attendance patterns as the reserves could end up doing less than 40 hours one week then over another week and it might not average out so adjustments to duty would then need to be made which could then impact on gettimng all due mail out of the D.O

At one point my D.O was looking at 9 day fortnights and we were putting in a reserve duty that was going to work 9 day fortnights only. That then impacts on annual leave.

All got voted out in the end and then 2 in 6 sats of was proposed with less opertaional changes but that was voted out as well.

Plenty of OPGs wanted more sats off but trying to get something in that would both work and command support in a ballot of the local mbrs in the end was impossible.

So its fixed day off off all the way untill the next revision.

I can see that would be the case Big Daz but surely thats not our problem ,management signed up for it they can sort it out, after all they must have considered the implications before they agreed to it :angel

But they left themselves a giant get-out clause Belial.
This will be achieved where duty structures and attendance patterns are innovative and meet the aspirations and needs of both employees and the company. Both parties accept that attendance patterns and duty structures must efficiently and cost effectively align hours to workload, meet the delivery specification and USO, and provide a real incentive for change.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

:chuckle Get out or Waterloo; Meet both sets of aspirations assumes conflict. The bit I'd choose would be the "real incentive for change" this I agree might not in management terms be "cost effective'
Perhaps this could turn out to be the litmus test for which side the CWU leadership are batting for - How many offices achieve their chosen attendance patterns?
Did you get the duty structure you voted for post revision ? Did you even get to make a choice ?

Thanks for your reply seems there are a lot of problems, and it is hard to implement shift patterns but even with a 9 day fortnight you will have to look at your reserves working weeks ,and if they are on 5 days one week they wont want to be on 5 the next,so with careful planning a four day week should be able to be worked in,if the office is large enough as 34 hr contract would be 8.5 hrs /day and nine day fortnight would be full time 39hrs/wk so 8hrs 40 mins so not a lot in that really just seems to me we are being told what we can have.

Again ,it is not your problem .The agreement states that you can achieve these attendance patterns as an incentive to change. Depending on arrival times most duty structures can be accommodated within a DO, the exception being the 10 hr day /4day week cos that requires X percentage SA.
Just cos it might be hard work to organise is not a valid management get out :silenced
