No receipt for Special Delivery

Not completely au fait with the workings of SD's at the post office end. My daughter sent an item off SD but didn't get a receipt or tracking number. I phoned today to see if the item had arrived and they say it hasn't (it has ben 48 hours now) I have the number to the probable DO which I intend to ring tomorrow. Not at work this week but do all offices retain proof of delivery for a certain amount of time. Is there any other way to approach this

Went down to the Post Office and they told her that i was in Royal mails system and they keep no info once it was.

All post offices give you receipts when you get a SD and the tracking number and post code to where its going is on it. I think your daughter has paid for it and just gone off without the receipt a bit of carelessness on your side. You haven’t got a leg to stand on mate.

How many SDs do we get that the customer has not torn of the top receipt --

As they say PO will keep a track of the bar codes for their own records, but they cannot identify a customer with a bar code so the chances of finding it are none too vanishingly small.

Go back to the post office where your daughter sent SD, tell them what date sent and post code where sent, they may have a tracking number on their horizon computer system good luck

They print off two copies everytime a collection driver picks up SD's. One for the collection driver to take away and they keep the other copy which the collection driver signs to say he's taken it. In theory they are supposed to keep these sheets for a period of time.

I dont know anything about the computer system but if you know the date & time it was roughly sent they can maybe look at the sheet & give you the tracking number. If ur lucky noone else would have sent one at around that time.

When I collected them on my duty, I just got a TSO sheet to specify how many bags/pouches I was collecting and they put the other sheet inside the bag/pouch being collected. They kept one copy but I think it was just a list of the SDs, there was nothing else to identify which belonged to whom or where they were going.

Rang the Bridgewater DO but they can't say whether or not it has been delivered so looks like it has gone

I would goto the Post Office were it was sent with the approx time and date and explain, either say you never given a receipt or have lost it can they help, i think most would try to to help. It has to be in the system somewhere, don't want to accuse your daughter but is she sure it was sent SD not just signed for or normal post. Has she checked her purse/handbag for a till receipt the number would be on that! Good luck.

I showed her an SD sticker and she assures me that it was. Went back to the post office and they say there is nothing they can do, that it is in the Royal Mail system now.

Which mailcentre does bridgewater come under,Bristol maybe?Find out,and try and get hold of the priority services locker at that MC,as they scan the barcodes at the mailcentre,before bagging them off to dispatch to the DO.As they have scanned the barcode,i would of thought there MAY be some sort of record of it passing through,if it got that far?

Any items on the system after a couple of days aren't viewable on the computers, I think the info gets sent to archives somehwere
