JUST EMBARKED ON MY SECOND WEEK OF VAN SHARING BUT TODAY I WAS WITH A RELIEF POSTIE WHO HAS "LONGER TERM SERVICE STAUS" OVER ME...
SUFFICE TO SAY: I CAME IN TO THE SORTING OFFICE THIS MORNING, NO POST PUT IN MY FRAME. DD'S JUST TURNED UP (6 BOXES-BIG WALK!), ETC, ETC. THE RELIEF POSTIE HAD BEEN IN THE SORTING OFFICE 2 HOURS BEFORE ME AND HIS FRAME WAS DONE, ETC...
SO HE TOOK THE VAN OUT WITHOUT ME AND DID HALF HIS POSTAL WALK; CAME BACK TWO HOURS LATER, PICKED ME AND MY POST UP-WE COMPLTETED HIS ROUND TOGETHER THEN HE INFORMS ME AFTER DOING TWO BUNDLES OF POST FOR MY BIG WALK THAT HE'S FINISHED NOW AND LEAVES ME TO FINISH MY POST WALK...
TWO HOURS LATER I RETURNED TO THE SORTING OFFICE WITH MY ROUND DONE (6.5 HOURS...)
ANY OTHER 25 HOUR CONTRACT POSTIES OUT THERE HAD THE SAME TREATMENT?

`Longer Term Service Status`- does that mean because he has been there longer than you he can tell you what to do/crap on you ?
You helped him do his round first? Why? Play him at his own game - leave your mail in the van untill your ready to walk it - do short loops so he has to keep meeting up with you to refill. Take one bundle loops at a time-no pouch. The moment he swares at you, walk off back to the office ( phone them on the way to tell them why you cant complete your delivery).

The way I see it is; you come in at your official start time, take your full meal relief, finish at your official time. If there's no mail thrown in when you come in see that as a good thing. You'll be spending more time on prep and less on delivery.
If your manager gets funny and wants to know why you can't complete tell him why. Next time show him your empty frame when you come in if necessary. Then perhaps he'll do his job properly and make sure the walk gets thrown in. If you don't stand up for yourself, you'll keep getting walked alll over. The manager won't care as long as the mail is getting delivered.

Just had a thought. What I said is assuming you're on a permanent contract. Don't try that if you're not as it's likely your temporary contract won't be renewed. If such is the case your best bet is to have a word your staff rep, but remember they've got you by the short and curlies on a temporary contract and they know it.
