Early start allowance!
Been mentioned loads but one question aint been answered yet,i think.
After the 3 years are up and the allowance as said by RM will go into basic pay.
How does this work for the guys (most of us in Lon) who don't get it anyway.
Will it go into one pot and shared out?
Will it mean that i make out of it and you guys lose out of it.
Any ideas on what will actually happen?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

According to the standing agreement on this from last year's pay deal, as I understand it, after (up to) 3 years' Pay Protection (under the MTSF agreement), the equivalent monies (about £50m) were to be shared out into giving a boost in basic pay for all. So some would lose allowances, but all would gain, especially as the approach is that we should all be better off under this year's pay deal. There would only be winners and losers if we were just sharing out the allowance, and not getting a decent rise for all. If you like, some might gain more in basic pay than others, if they didn't get the allowance before. Which seems no big problem to me, and I currently get the 0500 early start allowance.
Now Royal Mail has issued a briefing in the last day or so stating that they have decided that they will just keep paying the allowance to people who would have qualified for Pay Protection on a reserved rights (their phrase "grandad rights"; so much for diversity...) basis indefinitely.
The problem with this is that they will still make the savings eventually, as people leave or retire, and we won't have boosted basic pay...
And apart from that: they should be negotiating how to use this money with our union, and signing up to a legally binding agreement, not just dictating whatever they have decided is this week's policy...

As someone pointed out on another thread this offer of early shift allowance is only if we accept all the other changes. So they may have moved but you would need a nano meter to be able to measure it.
and POSTMAN if we accept it as it stands you would not be entitled to it as you don't qualify for it at the moment and haven't had it for the last 6 months. I don't know how it would affect those units that have accepted later starts already though.
IMHO its very unfair offer and we should not accept it, it should be put into a raise in basic pay for everyone. I would loose out but I think its fairer overall.

100% with you on this one . . . . I too would loose out but still think that averaging this money out and adding it to everones basic pay is the correct and fair way to go. . . . . also have you seen the RM Courier this month . . .it states we would keep the allowance for life - as long as you stay in your current job. . . . .Not "for as long as you work for RM", so how exactly would they define that, would switching deliveries or shifts loose you the money?. . . . I think I spot yet more stringsTrueBlueTerrier wrote:As someone pointed out on another thread this offer of early shift allowance is only if we accept all the other changes. I've got a Managers Brief and they are told to say that if you do move shifts then you will lose it.billypants wrote:100% with you on this one . . . . so that sounds like a yes then . . . . . YET MORE STRINGS . . . . . stuff your ridiculous offer RM, add it to everyones basic pay or I'm voting to go back out on the picket line . . . . . we all stood together on the strikes and should all gain from any offer made, do not let them divide and conquer
P.S. I say this as someone who would benefit from the payment, if we all play fair like this then we all benefit

Works well if you NEVER change your job within Royal Mail, but the way forward will see many of us being FORCED to change our job role."as long as you stay in your current role"
Example being, those working at mail centres (like Coventry, Wolverhampton) being FORCED to relocate and take on a different shift/job just to keep their job.
RM call this being "flexible", I call it scandalous!

It seems it's a bit like the driving allowance malarky after 'The way backward' deal.
I moved from lates to earlys and lost it
