Am I the Only One?

Two teams sat down to negotiate the 2010 and Beyond Agreement.

One set managed to achieve:

a 39hr week
weight off the shoulder
more Saturdays off
a ban on Private cars
a 3 year payrise deal
the opportunity to fully staff offices that have been subject to a recruitment freeze
the opportunity for p/t to move a f/t contract. Hadn't seen that in years.

The other set seem to have negotiated an agreement that has brought RM to its financial knees.
What exactly have RM gained from this deal?
Which negotiating team gained the most?

On the (for some) negative side D2D have gone into workload and we have lost the unit payment.
In my DO next week we have 120 000 D2D. This adds 20 000 to the daily traffic. Without that we would be lapsing 2 possibly 3 duties every day. As it is, we won't be lapsing any.
How would that be for an unrealistic workload? But oh yes I would be getting £30/week for my D2D instead of a Delivery Supplement of £20.60.
And as I am off next week - I'm still getting the Delivery Supplement.
Personally I am happy with that trade off - less work and more jobs.

So am I the only one who still thinks it is a good deal?
I voted yes. I'm glad enough of my colleagues had the sense to do the same.

No weight off my shoulder, in fact more with the great 5+ D2Ds I often get

Everyone still uses their cars and to be honest if they didn't at my place nothing would get delivered as the management completely rely on this
Pay did go up but still waiting for the bonus promised as the goal posts keep getting moved
My DO is almost always understaffed relying on people doing extra bits of walks/working days off
I'm still p/t and not had any offers of an increase in hours yet

Oh and because of the great D2D deal I now get paid £12 for what previously would have given me £40+ based on the amount we get because I am p/t and get paid pro rata even though I deliver the same as a full timer.

So I'm doing more work for less money and being told what a great deal I got.

hours will never be put into your DO whilst you continue using your own cars for delivery

work your contracted hour, take your meal relief, dont use your cars, or to put it another way, do the job propperly and management will be forced to put hour or jobs into your office


you are right about the pro-rata bit, PT always get shafted on this im afraid

Oh and I'm full-time and i lost my £12.37 ESA for this delivery supplement so my supplement works out at £8.23 even though i deliver the same as a part-timer.

ESA = Early Shift Allowance I presume? Sorry I've been told next to nothing about this as RM's main policy is management through withholding information.

Sorry you lost this but it's something I never had, although I'd come in 2 hours early to get it extra on top.

You're quite right about using cars but people wil always use them, which is why I think it will be interesting once these vans come in as people will have to come in at their start time and maybe RM will realise how much they take the piss.

Has your office had either of the revisions - Delivery Methods/ Walk Sequencing?

To aid transition, offices that have not deployed delivery methods revisions will have to provide genuine and demonstrable solutions to any weight or volumetric issues.

We get the mail sequenced if that's what you mean but nothing's changed delivery wise.

We have a load of vans at the bottom of the car park which we can't use until the new method's in place, thing is the date keeps changing and getting pushed further and further back.

I for one did not vote for the deal and really cant see any improvement. The new walks are longer and now running upto 4hr 40 min a day which is real hard work. Some of the older guys cant cope and have gone long term sick.

Not seen this happen and we have challanged the DOM and she's been instructed to do nothing. ( Blast, Calpsy might actually be right )

Make it happen !!!- tell the DOM you want to use a van and LWT's to try them out. I used an LWT pre christmas in the bad weather because it was safer and more comfortable than a bike or carrying a satchel on slippery pavements - there is no reason NOT to use facilities that are in your car park - the vans aren't free or untaxed or uninsured so insist on using them before the revision rather than waste the facility. Do you have some sort of Progress Prevention Officer in your office that wants you to suffer because he's "not sure of approval" Start getting bolshie for your own sake - who knows - you will probably learn things that will help to make your eventual revision moderately successful !!!

I did Chunk. This is what I read:

In the plus column.
We have a 39hr week...
We have trolleys to take the weight of the shoulder....
We have 11 part-time members made up to full-time.....
We have 3 new entrants.....
We have been paid £800 of the LS payments.....
All of our staff including part-timers are on a higher hourly rate flowing through to O/T.....
The use of PCOD has ceased........

Now if you haven't got that in your office yet, either you haven't had the revisions, in which case you can't really comment on the agreement or you haven't ensured the agreements were adhered to.
With a DMR there should be a ban on PCOD. If not why not?

Their taking two duties out of our office so our 3 part timers are likely to remain so.

You find the time by either claiming extended or cutting off. You have to make it happen.

I am not sure what you mean.
I have quoted from Fishtank's post in the thread you directed me to.
This is what the agreement (BT 2010) should achieve for your office.
If you haven't had the relevant revisions you won't yet have seen the benefits.
If you have had the relevant revisions but haven't seen the benefits, then the fault does not lie in the agreement.
If Fishtank can achieve all those things in his DO using the agreement, why can't you?
