Here at Nottingham nearly 90% of managers are doing postmans work. When challenge them union do nothing or challenge them. Managers responce with done a deal with the union. Any more scared or weak unions about or his it only at nottingham.

On a more serious note,you are the gutless union that you talk about,make something happen,start asking questions and the first one should be aimed at your MCM...
If his managers have all of this spare capacity to perform OPG work...are they really necessary?
Shouldn't he be looking to pare down his management team into a more efficient unit?
Is it an efficient use of resources to pay someone £15+per/hour to perform tasks that should be done by someone on £9 per/hour?
This should send them scurrying back into there office to find something more productive to do.

I did challenge the mcm and all he did was shrugg his shoulders. Union thought it was funny, Yes i might be the union but with out the backing of our rep or the members what more can i do.

our manager/DOM putting out mech mail, doing tracked items, doing miss sorts, union do nothing................so one of us will stop working while he does our work, so 1 stand around doing his work, once he see this he stops and asks him to do miss sort or what ever

Managers doing posties work? Well RM might as well make them all "Team Leaders" then and bring in that "Team Leaders" thing that they wanted to bring in a few years ago.

Managers in alot of delivery offices have become well paid leaflet sorters, everyday they are putting D2D's together for opg's. But what do members expect the CWU to do ?? If they didn't do it D2D's would fail alot of weeks, plus opg's don't complain because it saves them having to do it. It's wrong, but it's better than um sat on there arses in the office doing nothing.

It happens every day in my office, no rep but area rep not that interested and members don't give a f#ck.

I wouldnt worry, all these managers are doing is putting themselves at the front of the queue for redundancy when the inevitable does finally happen. Smart managers will always find themselves something to keep busy with in line with their proper duties.

In one of my old jobs, when the company was taken over, the first thing all managers were required to do was fill out a breakdown of their working day, hour by hour. Result was three managers at depot reduced to one and it was the third in command they kept not the top two!

Royal Mail is sooner rather than later going to have to start reducing its levels of management. While the amount of front line staff employed by the business continues to reduce they are no longer required in such numbers. Also its doubtfull this is affordable in the current economic climate along with falling revenue volumes.

Bet you don't see any of the lazy bastard's out doing a 5 hour delivery in the rain? Oh I forgot they do sometimes take out the 1st class mail only and then have the brass neck to come back and say, "That wasn't too hard I don't know what you blokes are moaning about!"
Sooner they sack the work shy bunch of spongers the better and then there might be a bit more cash about to employ more proper Full Time Posties.
