They Have Started Again!

Post by drb »

After being told,(as an area), that there will be a reduction in overtime hour age,(breaks all national agreements) and more absorption,(non pay and mod compliant),we managed to get in on a conference call :

After imposing the above "if the local CWU complains then you(the DOM) have delivered"
"If you can get no OT at all on a Tuesday and absorb it all you will be awarded"
"We have seen our people delivering at 08:20"

"Disregard all CWU agreements"

After emailing the regional director,(he did the above conference call, here is his answer :

I held a series of conference calls yesterday with all of the regions unit managers in support of my senior team. You will be aware that the current financial situation for the letters business is not a good one, we are loosing money against the plan at an alarming rate and we need to slow down if not stem the current rate of loss. Clearly there is some good reason behind this, firstly our joint transformation agreement took much longer to be released than first anticipated when we constructed this years plans, secondly the success rate of transformation deployment has been poor, many of the units that have deployed change have not realised the efficiency improvements required. Despite these two significant issues the company continues to be true to the agreement and deploy the full investment in the shape of the pay deal, new vehicles, new technology and safer ways of working. We then need to take into account the continued decline in revenue and I am sure you will appreciate why we are where we are and how critical our current situation is.

As already said I can not read your note but your headline of Dash for Cash is misplaced. These measures that are being undertaken are not a dash for cash, they are placing the region in most cases back to a position we were pre Christmas but most importantly it provides the platform for next years plans. Our plans for which are very pragmatic in my view, we have provided the proper planning time and resource to avoid the mistakes made this year and with the full involvement of our people and trade union we will able to check progress and suitability at every review stage. This will be critical for next year because we can not fail to deliver our joint agreement again. Your own sector for example, and the sector is not alone, has not delivered any efficiency improvement this year via the transformation agreement and this is simply not good enough. The small change in (a delivery office) has cost the company money; I know you will agree that we must turn this type of result around for all of our long term futures.

I hope this puts what you have heard into some type of context, I often fear that you only ever have the negatives relayed to you, I am very confident that we can deliver next years plan for the good of the company, customer and our people, quite simply this is about all of our futures. You have my word that we will continue to honour and make the most of our joint agreements in Thames Valley ; your continued support in this pursuit is much appreciated.

If you provide ****** with the dates of your next local rep meeting I would be more than happy to join you for an hour or two.

Best Wishes

**********

The above email is clearly a lie as we had heard him on the conference call and his stand in DSM echoed the same message to scared out of their wits DOMs.

What did your ADR say, when you relayed this info?

For us Andy...for us.
The same story is being repeated elsewhere,HQ knows about it,the clock is ticking as they say.
It's time to put up or shut up...and that goes for members too.
A rock and a hard place springs to mind but some difficult decisions will have to be made at 150 the Broadway.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Something tells me that we are not being told the truth...................mind you what's new? Right from the word go this agreement was a nonsense and yet the union went along with it, caught hook line and sinker by yet more promises of "involvement", revisions "not generated by savings"..........some of the blame must be laid at unit level though. where there has been less than an entusiastic approach to 2010 & Beyond. However.......when you look at the ballot, despite what the union pundits say, it was hardly an overwhelming acceptance of the deal. When you look at the "abstainers" and the No voters is it any wonder that the revision transformations are where they are. When do you stop sleeping with the enemy...................

Time will tell, there is a big meeting tomorrow with all major reps and dsms/directors. This went straight "up" and HQ know about it. The meeting tomorrow is about "areas that are not complying" . Now all we have,(in this and many cases) is a "smoking gun".
If HQ do not get a grip here it could get a LOT worse............

Based on the experiences I have had in my D.O with CWU members and OPGs since revision planning started, I agree.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a criticism of the stance they are taking, they must do what they feel is right for them BUT is it right for the overall strength of the union? If anyone thought that the control and acceptance of union diktat was sporadic before this agreement then I would suggest that it has got progressively worse. Despite the "joint statements" and the supposed "involvement" of the CWU, the grass roots aren't buying in to it and the union are now in a cleft stick, do they still have the caring sharing role with RM or do they support the members, this is after all less than midway in a 3 year deal?

I had a CMA rep approach me for support the other day,(bear in mind he was a planner too). However I stated that "I would never cross a picket line, but YOUR members, managers i meant, do not comply. You need to ask the rank and file CWU members". No answer!

There are savings to be made...in line managers. How many in your office?

its in the shitter BECAUSE of managers and bad management. to say work a bit extra for nothing would only be the beginning,,,,,,it would then come to pay cuts. there are some offices running with 3 or 4 managers, when they could be run with only 1. there is far too much bitterness and resentment that has built up over the years towards them, so a hell of a lot of members simply would not work extra for nothing. even at the cost of it going under. how much money were we losing when crozier got his 2million bonus. naah mate, i,de rather put mesel on the dole.
