Hi everyone,
I'm Rob, 25, been a postie since 2004, from a small village called Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales, I did previously write a post on a different topic but I thought I'd finally introduce myself properly. Looking for a bit of advice on tranfers if possible, I'm considering moving to Devon in the next year or so and I'm wondering how easy the process is to transfer to another office, any help would be very much appreciated. Yeah I noticed there was a position going at Totnes D.O. but it was the usual 25 hour, 3 month term contract, never hear of any full time vacancies being offered these days! Even if I did put in for a transfer, would I be forced to accept whatever position was avaliable at the time or could I refuse it until, what I would call (the right position for me) came along? As for Grassington, yeah it's probably up there with the best areas to deliver mail. I live in the neighbouring village of Threshfield only a mile away. There are only 9 of us in our office, all local to the area, 5 rural van duties and two walks! I have my own rural van duty that covers my own home address and also the village of Hebden where I grew up so everyone has known me since I was born!! I also do a scheduled attendance collection duty that covers most of the dale. I consider myself very, very lucky indeed and yes I guess I am quite daft for even considering leaving but I find myself being a young person in an unfortunatly ever increasing retired people's community and feel, with no real ties or commitments here I'm in need of a new challenge! Also as we are all aware moral on the whole is rather low right across the board but being out there chatting to the people, knowing they appreciate all the effort you put in makes you feel like what you do has a purpose and thats what I love about the job!!!
