hi all,
I've been a full time postie for 9 years now and have quite a good sick record. Recently i had that flu bug that was going round just before i had a weeks leave, i tried to work through it as i new i had a week off the following week, but come Thursday i phoned to go sick and was asked if i would be in on friday by my DOM! as if i know that. I was then told i would need to contact the office every day starting thurs afternoon to explain how i was and if i would be returning to work. I switched my phone off as i was ill and didnt want the hassle. My manager posted a special delivery letter through my door friday afternoon without knocking. this letter said i must attend an interview on saturday at 7am if i dont my pay will be stopped! i found out that 6 other employees had the same letter with 15min time intervals.
Anyway as i new i had a weeks leave starting monday i didnt go to the interview and i was to ill to go anyway. i couldnt drive and surely its not a good idea to go spreading all my germs as the office would of been full at 7am. i phoned in saturday around 10am and told them i was still feeling ill i was then told how the man at the top is been very strict with sick now and i may have to have my pay stopped (he obviously didnt realise i had a weeks leave) i let him go on a bit agreeing with him then said can you resume me now and ill see you a week on monday. unbelivable. one of my work mates did get there pay stopped for that saturday luckily i didnt.
was just wondering if this is going on in any other offices

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

what a lovely manager...
i'd have told him i was still ill while on my week off so they'd have to give me the week off at another time. EU (or uk ) law states you need time to recuperate but this cant be done if you are ill.

take out a grievance. your grievance is the way you have been treated whilst off sick
