Hybrid duty?

Can someone explain what a hybrid duty is and why are they so desparate to bring them in to my office? The new duty will make no savings whatsoever but will force an afternoon collection lad into morning prep and deliver which they can't do because of childcare issues and will force a full-time delivery lass into starting around 10am 'til 6pm which she can't do because of childcare issues What's the point if overall hours remain the same? Manager gets bonus for bringing them in? Can they be forced in?

The savings will come from absorbing the IPS/prep of the delivery.
Before: 0600-1400 delivery duty & 1500-1800 collection SA
After: 1000-1800 delivery/collection hybrid duty hence saving 15hrs SA per week
The delivery is preped by lapsing someone off the IPS, so you lose two people off the IPS.

Apparently they are the way forward, according to RM.

You also have to remember that with the new collections comes the "under the roof" idea, where we have to face up mail before it goes down to the Mail Centre, thats two SA's a night gained

Peeps on days do the prepping,hybrids come in and do the delivery and a collection,bye bye collection drivers.

In our office they are offering the same hours that the collection drivers did but in the morning They would then prep the duty that the full timer did! The full timer then starts at 10am and does the collection 'on the way home' . Apart from loosing experience sorters off the ips no savings in hours from the former collection drivers

Agreement was to aim for 75% full time. If your mail doesn't come off the CSS until 10:00 and last letter is 3pm and your CDV revision is in so your taking all packets then surely delivery spans will be smaller than now so looking at a 30 hour contract???

Add a collection to the end and you maintain 3 pm last letter and create full time position.

Doesn't help childcare though!

We're about 60/40% PT/FT, 75% FT! that's a laugh! Mail arrives 5-5.30am, everyone out the door by 8-8.30am. Only 3 town deliveries (PT) and all the rest rural delivered by FT and PT (made up). So I don't understand the reason behind it other than to grind the few remaining FT into the ground! I predict that my office will be 100% PT in the next few years, FT are treated like dirt contantly watched and harassessed, PT can do anything they like, cut corners, start early, 'forget D2D's' etc etc
under siege.
