DRIVING ALLOWANCES

Lost my driving duty three years ago which incorporated a supplement for driving a high top vehicle.Was told I would be able to keep the allowance in my new duty even though didnt involve driving high top vehicle.Consequently have received the supplement ever since.Im trying to find out how long i receive this supplement? is it a permanent thing or does it expire after a period of time.

I think you want to be careful here,you shouldn't be getting the allowance if you don't drive a high top.

No idea but it was agreed by a manager and CWU rep that i would keep the allowance when i lost my duty.What do i do?

high top drivers all on mtsf here. 3.5 tonne and above only to recieve mgv allowance. i,ve argued they should keep mgv allowance but no joy. i, would keep stom if i were you

Im seriously worried now,if im not entitled to it then would imagine I could be made to pay it back? Surely if you lose your duty you must be entitled to keep any allowances you receive for a period of time.Afterall you could have taken a mortgage/loan on the basis of that income.

Was it a pensionable allowance and how long were you in receipt of it for?

as far as i am aware you recieve the payment for 3 years then it stops.

If you are over 50 you will continue to get it until 60 under 50 3 years

I am in the same position. My duty had a high top van, then they removed it for a smaller van. They tried to remove the allowance but had to reinstate it. This was because, unless I pick off the duty, I am entitled to the allowance. Since then though the duty has changed so much that it is unrecognizable from the old duty.
I still don't think it matters though because it is something to do with your duty description. If it is basically the same as it was when you drove a high top, then the allowance stays. If you pick off of the duty you lose it, or if you are moved to a different duty such as walking or rural, it is payed for 2 years then stops. Anyone who takes over your duty will not get paid the allowance since it doesn't use the high top now.

Rather than worry about it I asked for clarification from my line manager.He has checked with HR and seems I should have only received the allowance for three years and that i may be liable to reimburse overpayments.A month later I am still receiving the allowance!! it beggars belief,you can only do so much.

I have a document and an email from a royal mail manager which proves that unless you change role or job you should continue to receive this allowance... This is because no new agreement has been reached on this problem and therefore the 'staus quo' applies. Put down your email if you want me to email what i have to you!
