options available due to disability

I have been diagnosed with arthritis in both my feet and am due to be sent to a mail centre. i have been told there are no positions available in driving, locker or collections. ideally i would like to stay outside but due to only being able to cpmplete half,maybe slightly more of a walk i am being draughted out. Is there anything i can do

Also, my hours have been changed from 9-2 to 2-7pm

Seems my condition is only going to get worse so a permanent change is inevitable. Just a bit peeved with the change of hours, and ideally would have liked to kept a position outside.

There was plenty you could have done but you've handed over the control to them by accepting a job at the mailcentre and altering your hours.
Nevermind I'm sure they will look after you.

I was only told today that I would be going to the mailcentre, I have been waiting for a position to come up and this is the first. I thought it was normal practice for people to be sent to MC's when unablle to perform their duties? I am intriigued as to what more I could have done to influence the decision? My rep is seeing if anything can be done as I type. I wouldn't have thought I could refuse to go to the MC.

Sorry this is not a positive “come out fighting reply” but I think long term you need to keep a job, which with RM record for understanding isn’t easy.

You need to stop delivery work straight away before you do any more damage and I guess the MC is better than Med retirement.. Sometimes change is forced upon us and its not our fault but looking back you may be glad.

Also wondering where I stood re my permanent ccontract. They would have retired me on medical grounds as a postie, can they now get rid of me as being surplus within the MC?

Not sure quite what you mean - if you can't do the job at the MC for medical reasons then yes they could try IHR again.

If you are talking about redundancy then at the moment there is an agreement/understanding with the Union that RM will endeavour to not make people compulsory redundant, make of that what you will as they are already going through the process of making Central Function Managers compulsory redundant

If you mean that you are surplus at the MC when you move - I wouldn't worry about that as they probably would not transfer you if there were no vaccancies for you to fill, however having offered you it there must be some gurantees for you anyway.

Constructive dismissal cases are hard to judge from the outside so it would be difficult to give you any advice on that. CAB are usually quite good on this though.

I would give the mail centre a go. I had a mate at work who suffered a heart attack at 32 He had to trans to the MC and was not keen but glad to still be alive. He pops in from time to time and loves it now
