Are VR's being stopped for delivery posties?

I have 2 email queries where offices have based their revisions on a certain amount of VR's.
Posties have received their settlement figures but RM are refusing to move them forward and one union rep has been told that only MC workers will get paid out.

One office are looking into the legalities of whether it's discrimination or not.

Anyone know what is going on?

I know for a fact that in my delivery office a large number of posties would jump at the chance of being offered VRs as the ever increasing physical workload is becoming unbearable and knackering for us "oldies" . I think that it is unfair to offer this predominantly to MCs workers. I think one of the stumbling blocks for VRs is the CWU who do not have any idea what their member actually want. Needless to say the unions do not want to encourage anyone to ask for VR as this would mean a drop in union contributions. Talk about supporting the workers. Bo.loc.s!

this does seem to be happening at delivery offices in north london aswell,full-time staff are
being offered part-time dutys in revisions but no mention of vr.
our union does not understand how many staff want to leave after this sad agreement had been excepted.
staff that have been in this job for years know we are all on borrowed time in royal mail and under revisions
that may be coming in the next few months many staff will leave or be medically retired.
planning managers and union reps will have a lot to answer for in the next few years.

if our union asked for a ballot now on anything at the moment staff would tell them where to go,
the next strike would only be by unoffical action with out union backing

Dont blame it on the reps i know reps who have fought hard for the members only to be told by the area, div reps and hq to get on with, its a disgrace that those above will take any blame for the total mess we are in.

its suprising what physical toll the job has, over the long term, the body just wears out, delivery is for younger postmen, unless you are reasonibly fit.
we need proper health assessments and Evr should be given.
More hours cut, more sick pay, paid out.

We've been told they'll hold off recruiting any more posties (despite a shed load of 22.5hr 12 week contract guys turning up) until the MCs are sorted. They will offer any MC workers, from nearby MCs, a job as a Postie (instead of Compulsory Redundancy) and I suppose if they refuse it they'll have an excuse to get rid of them with some crappy deal.

Not heard of any of our guys getting offered VR, they'll just keep messing them about until they've had enough and jack! In the past they've made the old boys soldier on and do their time, haven't been willing to let them VR with only a few years left!

When RM get round to the DO closures and mergers program, and make no bones about it they will; one of the reasons why increased van use is being utilised; that's when the VR 'pot' will switch to the delivery staff.

Just there is something left in the pot by that time

Be careful what you wish for.

VR sounds all well and good, but if you've got bills to pay, especially a mortgage, are you CERTAIN you'll get another job ? As someone said on TV yesterday, jobs that are full-time, permanent contract (not part-time, temporary contract or agency-based) are very hard to get these days. We may be about to enter a double-dip recession, and there's a flood of rival potential job-seekers to compete for scarce jobs when councils start shedding staff soon. Not a good time to choose to be unemployed !

I don't understand the tone of some of the comments, as if MC staff are somehow 'lucky' to get VR. If a MC closes, and the sorting work is mechanised at one of the big new 'super-MC's, then clearly some of the jobs in the closed MC are made redundant, hence VR being offered.

Firms outside of RM often try to soften the blow of redundancy by telling the poor sod who's thrown on the scrapheap that it's their job that is made redundant, not the person who does that job.

Letters, packets and door-to-door items still need as many people to deliver them this Monday as they did last week, so why are people surprised that VR's are not being offered to delivery staff ?? Until RM start employing a fleet of robots, delivery jobs are still needed, hence the lack of VR's, surely ?

Rather than VRs we are getting more and more staff and probably more to come - I don't believe I have ever seen a VR in over 20 years, I have seen sackings and Ill health but never a straight forward VR.

2003 was the last i saw and he started in '68...
He never said a word...here one day...gone the next.
We have had a couple transfer to the M/C and then get VR but i can't see that happening again.

When our night sorting went in 2005 4 were offered and took vr. Service ranged from 5 years to 25. The other 4 3 became delivery posture and one went to mc.

i agree with all the above comments and the amount of people leaving through natrual wastege is at all time high in my office,in our area RM are on a massive recruitment campaign albeit fot temp staff,but of course on worse contract than us.

On making people redundant i am not sure but i think by Law a company cannot recurit anyone for up to 6 months
