holiday entitlement
can someone please tell me if i,m being screwed over here, i,ve been a postie for 3 years now and every year i,ve had to to carry forward my annual leave that i have left. i,ve got 6 days left for this year and have asked if i can take them in either january, february or march only to be told by my manager that there are no dates available. i,m also going to purchase extra days for next year(more fool me) meaning i,ll 36 days for next year.if this carries on and only allowed to book 4 weeks through the year, next year i,ll have to take over 16 days and the following year i,ll have 26 days left. its getting to the stage where i need a break but can,t. can i insist that i need to take my entitlemnet or will i lose them?

Re: holiday entitlement
you can only carry one week into the next year.
are you getting screwed by management? we all are, simply not enough allocation to allow everybody thier leave entitlement.

Re: holiday entitlement
except for the "seniors" in the office who all seem to be coming back from 2 and 3 week breaks, they can get their entitlement in.

Re: holiday entitlement
You have to use it up so your DOM will have to let you have some time off at some stage before April 1st!

Re: holiday entitlement
There does seem to be something going on with this years allocation. It's pretty crap normally but this year there is no weeks left at all, not even bad ones. Just wondering if they have dropped the ratio of weeks off to staffing levels due to the revisions being imposed on us. Would make sense they want as many bodies available as possible to cope with the cutoffs etc?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Re: holiday entitlement
No idea if it is standard practice, but we have two "waves" of annual leave allocation, the second of which started this week...
The first wave allocated at least two weeks of next year with preference going with seniority, while this second wave is going on reverse seniority.
What is stretching the whole system to the limits is that my line manager now relies on several members of staff working their day off week after week, so all walks are covered, as we have lost at least two members of staff in the past six months who have not been replaced.

Re: holiday entitlement
I'm a full time driver and we pick our leave via a rota system
This year i have 6 weeks leave to claim, so this is what i'm left with
1 week in summer and 5 weeks in winter
try explaining to my kids why we don't go on holiday or day trips.
Screwed over or what

Re: holiday entitlement
I
This year we are being allowed to carry 6 days over.
I have been denied all the leave i chose after this July!! How can this be fair when i put it on my original leave form! At this rate i will have about 20 days spare and no time to use them!!
I think you mean "simply not enough STAFF to allow everybody their leave entitlement"BT2010 wrote:you can only carry one week into the next year.

Re: holiday entitlement
i spoke to my union rep about taking leave up to the end of march and was told by him that management have informed him that if you do want any time off then you will have to make up what time you want off through lapsing ie if i want a week off then for the next 5 weeks i will have to work my day off

He is WRONG your rep that is - you have just described banking hours which is unagreed - or you are describing Wallington shifts which again cannot be imposed without agreement and the 1 week off in 6 is a fixed cycle as well.
If your rep is still being a numpty over this then go over his head, and their head etc.
If by any chance its a local agreement ask to see it in writing and see if there are any loopholes. However, I would be concerned and frankly amazed if there is a local agreement that has Okayed banking hours as it goes against CWU policy AFAIK.

Re: holiday entitlement
You can carry over more than one weeks leave to the next year if you ask for it in writing.
And i'm sure exceptional circumstances mean you can as well.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

you should look into this because you should have 2 weeks allocated in the summer.

Re: holiday entitlement
I think it depends on the office regarding carry overs .
I now have 43 days to take as of now . I buy extra and had 13 days carried forward .
