Cage won't know unless they have a list of every redi in the office, unlikely.
Drivers won't know unless,see above.
This is a funny one tbh,i've managed to get away with this as a driver, well i think i have.

Our cage has a print out of all the redirections because they deal with the new ones.
Whether they would check the specials against the list is doubtful.
They are very busy. :whistle :angel

Redirections are the responsibility of the person performing the delivery of the item.

you should be cross referencing your SD's with the duty holder for redirections(i would do tracked in the same way too)

Tbf i would of thought that would be near on impossible for 'some' offices.
It's a very grey area. And i've never heard of an official line on this.

If you play the numbers game...what's the chances of someone who's moved out and got a redirection getting a special?
Very, very slim....possible but....i don't think it's likely to crop up very often.

I left a card for a special when covering a parcel duty.A few days later I was covering the same house on a walk and noticed a redirection for it.Told manager, who checked it,redirected it and left a note in the callers office,in case someone came in to collect it.
I knocked on the door when out on delivery and explained to the new tenant what had happened.

The redirection was inter office,so the postman who delivered it apologized for the mix up,and everyone was happy.
No ones fault really.

thing is postman, its the 'right' way
if it takes 20+ minutes then thats how long it takes
as always its time & capacity
if a DIM wants to tell a driver not to do it then thats fine, with witnesses

when i was working on delivery... during my first week on solo i signed for the specials and then checked all my redirections before bundling everything up.
turned out one of the specials i had signed for.. was for someone who had a redirection order in place... i went and asked the PHG what i was meant to do since it was one of the special delivery bags ... and was flat out told that under no circumstances had we to re-direct a special delivery.. that we had to return the item to the locker and they would deal with it... i assumed that meant it was returned to sender...

As a fully trained cage person(!!) I can say what you should do is...

1) place the redirection label on the SD item the same as any other mail.
2) take the barcode off the and place it on your signing card and write "Redirection".
3) give the SD back to the cage.

The Cage has "barcodes" that they can scan to show that its a redirection. They then send it back to the MC or where ever.

The Root Post is interesting and not something that I've come across in all my time at RM. I guess that RM would end up refunding the money if the customer kicked up a stink otherwise it would be 'slightly delayed' :Very Happy

Ok, so in my office, all the town walks have parcels to do after they come back from their walks. Some deliver parcels for their own walks, so will sometimes notice that they have a parcel that should be redirected, but some deliver parcels for other walks. When the yorks come of the lorry in the morning, it is part of someone's duty to place all the parcels in the relevant skips. Obviously, he doesn't have a clue who has redirections, so just puts them where he should. Now there can be up to 20 - 30 parcels to deliver each, and maybe one walk might have 20 odd redirections. Are you expected to go through your parcels and tally them up against 20 odd redirections for your round. Because that would take a long time. I've never seen it happen, because it just doesn't happen. Who would take the blame if a parcel was delivered when it should have been redirected.
We've been told that if we miss a redirection, then we have to watch a dvd on redirections every time we miss one!!
