Mail sorting/processing in Iraq/Afghanistan...

Last summer we at Nuneaton delivery office had a visit from army recruitment officers looking for people to go out to Iraq or Afghanistan to sort/process the mail for the troops. At the time I wasn't interested but now I am, however I can't remember any of the details. They may have been from the TA's but I can't be sure. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated as at the moment I don't even know where to start.

Nope you dont have to get up at 4am everyday. In fact you might think that is a lie in.

I did a stint in a BFPO and you are on call 24/7 and 18 hour shifts are usual. You don't tend to deliver as the clerks for the different units collect the mail as and when. But you have to sort it and the Hercules, Pumas, Chinooks, VC10s, and whatever else they use (including foriegn flag forces) dont come on any set schedule so you have to be ready to act with just a few minutes notice.


However, you tend to be the most popular people on the base, and letters from home are the MOST IMPORTANT thing and because of that it is extremley rewarding.

Yeah i think that would be a brilliant job . At 41 i think im on the border of being too old .

Car - seen it done they fit in Hercs quite well - although you do run the risk of it being dumped out the back whilst in flight.

Age - yep 28 is the limit in the RAF and 34 IIRC in the TA for new starters

I thought 43 was the limit for ex forces only. Although it makes sense as they are getting desperate to get their Wars fought on the cheap.
