This car thing with you.
To me your post does not make sense,go to your DO and get a lift out and back, you do not get mileage for taking your car out to your delivery point,if that is what you mean.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Re: claiming fuel
Why should they pay you to use your car when there are busses or bikes you can use? anyway you shouldnt be using your car on delivery, you're putting jobs at risk.

your not entitled to claim milage for any part of what you have stated, however i have posted below the rules on business milage and you need to ask for an r85 form from your tax office
the reason your not entitled is you are not required to use your own car as part of your delivery

Tax relief for business mileage or fuelYou may be able to get tax relief for business mileage when you use your own vehicle on business, or for fuel you buy when you use a company car. You can go back several years to get the relief - the time you've got depends on whether you've previously sent in a Self Assessment tax return.

What counts as business mileage?
Business mileage is mileage you travel doing your job. It can include travel to a temporary work place but it doesn't include:
•normal travel between home (or anywhere that is not a workplace) and your permanent workplace
•private travel

Tax relief for business mileage in your own vehicle
You may be able to get tax relief for business mileage if you use your own vehicle for work. It can be a car, van, motorcycle or cycle.
You can work out the amount of tax relief – called ‘Mileage Allowance Relief’ - to which you are entitled like this:
1. add up your business miles travelled in the tax year
2. multiply your business miles by the approved mileage rate to work out the approved amount – follow the link below for the latest approved mileage rates
3. add up any mileage allowance payments received from your employer
4. compare any mileage allowance payments received with the approved amount
If the approved amount's more, you're entitled to Mileage Allowance Relief on the difference.
For example, you use your own car for 850 business miles and your employer pays you 30p per mile. The approved amount is £340 (850 times 40p). The allowance you get from your employer is £255 (850 times 30p). Your Mileage Allowance Relief is £85 (£340 less £255).
You are only entitled to Mileage Allowance Relief if your employer pays you:
•no mileage allowance
•less than the approved amount
If your employer pays you more than the approved amount, you'll have to pay tax on the extra.
Get details of approved mileage rates
Records you must keep
You need to keep records of dates, mileage and details of all work journeys. Your employer needs this information to make expenses payments to you. You also need them to get any Mileage Allowance Relief.
If you use different vehicles
If you use more than one vehicle of the same kind add all your business miles together in one calculation.
If you use vehicles of different kinds make separate calculations for each one.
Find out how vehicles are grouped
If you work for different employers
If you have two or more employers which are independent of each other, you're due the higher mileage rate for business mileage in each job.

Tax relief for fuel when using a company vehicle
If you pay for fuel when using a company vehicle for business travel you can get tax relief on fuel costs, less any payments repaid by your employer and covered by a 'dispensation'. You must keep a record of your business mileage to calculate your expenses.

Re: claiming fuel
You got to be joking, you don't have to drive any where, it's your car. RM should provide a van to drop you to the other vans, refuse to use your car. If you want to use your car then I would request some type of payment for using your own vehicle, if RM refuse then don't use your car, simple!tommythreesheds wrote:My fellow posties and i have to drive 1/2 a mile to pick up our vans in the morning. Why dont you use the RM van to take back the trays etc ? why drive your own car back to the sorting office carring RM equipment ?
Drive half a mile with fuel at 1.30 odd a litre are you nuts !. I park my car and cycle a mile into the office and then a mile out again its not really that hard.

Re: claiming fuel
As i said, i don't feel i'm taking the piss by asking, but walking......fair do's, but would you want to if it was pissing down/snowing/icy/blowing a gale. I just find it weird that allowances are not made for staff in this position. I would love to walk out my sorting office and unlock my van. Some posties may even be worse off, i don't know.......

Re: claiming fuel
Of course you cantkizzy wrote:I can claim fuel at 40p per mile
Occasionally i will drive to my local office to pick something up for my own office on my way to work. I then book one hours overtime for the trip which is easier than trying to claim fuel allowance.
