I am writing with regards to the presentation given to the Divisional Representatives on Monday in relation to the scoping of potential Delivery Office closures.

I have taken guidance from CWU HQ and this email represents exactly the same position as I gave to yourself and the other Directors on Monday.

If you approach the CWU with a H&S issue in any DO and offer proposals to move to a more suitable premises then we will of course look at what you are saying.

We are not however in a position to support any strategic approach to closing DOs based on any other reasoning. We accept that over the course of the BT2010 agreement that there will be Delivery Office closures but we firmly believe that this is a National issue and is best dealt with under a National Agreement / Framework.

Therefore we have advised our branches in the #### Division to not get involved in any talks that fall into the description above.

In addition to this if you could please forward the documentation that you presented to us on Monday then I can pass it onto Bob Gibson so that he is aware of where the #### Region are coming from and this can then form part of the National discussions.

It's called assest stripping it is what every private company would do anyway. For example we currently inhabit a listed building which has 3 floors we use only the ground floor for our operation it is worth millions to a property developer. Better to get the money out now before it all goes to TNT etc.....Wake up and smell the coffee we will privately owned and run within the year. Its every man for himself....

There'll be lots over here that they'll look to close, my office will be one of them but because we're so spread out what they save in office closures they'll lose in paying for extra staff to cover the duties that we'll be spending and extra 30-60 minutes travelling to.

DO closures will not be limited to one geographical area.

Dear All they shut are office in gt dunmow essex, it was there since 1934 i believe, we had to move to braintree about 11 miles away.

Could the un-agreed closure of D.O.'s be an excuse for balloting the membership for strike action ( then we can all join in the multi-union year of strikes planned for 2011 ) ?

Then the 2010 agreement could be re-negotiated ( as the CWU have found a few more items of T&C that they haven't yet given away yet, also they could help RM cut our pay a bit further )

I cant think of another organisation which uses its buildings/estate so ineffciently. Alot of RM buildings sit in city centre prime locations, often next to railway stations. Many of the buildings are under-used with very little being used for ops.

Any private sector company would look properly at this issue, Royal Mail shold do the same whether its public or private. Its should also look to get out of inappropriate sites which are costly to maintain.

Yes some of the buildings are nice to look at but it really should be doing ALOT more to get better value. If that means closing DO's then so be it.

The proposals are to close citywide DO's, originally we had two DO's to shut and resources re-allocate to the Mail Centre. Now suddenly we have a H&S issue with another DO, so it too is reallocating to Mail Centre, only two DO's left to go. Now the cynics amongst us would regard this a cost cutting, assest stripping, and downgrading services.
