After work activity recovery
I would like to know what the best way to recover quickly from work, so I can do some studying. Any tips.
As I want to go home and have an hour break and eat something then hit the books. Sometime I just doze off. Somedays I need 4 hours to recover and then study which is not enough time. As I got to manage time better with studying, watching TV, going to football, do salsa dancing, facebook and video gaming.

When I get in, I do 50 chin-ups, then 50 bicep curls on each arm with the dumb-bells, then I have a nice, hot bath.

It might be an idea to go straight to bed for at least 2-3 hours. Of course, it all depends on your moods.
A couple of weeks back I thought I had created me best schedule / 'mood' filter in getting back to studying sh*t loads of stuff again, but something went 'orribly wrong -- all of a sudden, I couldn't give a t*ss, and anyway it was my week off last week... back to work tomorrow. Oh fugg, no!
I have a website that I haven't maintained in donkey's years. CSS is a piece of p*ss, but alas, my memory is also sh*te. I made many inroads (in my understandings) of my early table-based, and then non-table-based websites, so much so that I finally was able to put to rest that once fabled 'Holy' of 'Holy Grails' of non-table-based, liquid layouts. Mostly, it has to be said, with the help of one Paul O'Brien over at SitePoint, otherwise I might have forever been churning out fake layouts and elements of every description.
Anyway, my advice (to anyone) is to do a little bit of the same something (?) everyday, but again spread across in ever manageable bite-sizes.
Incidentally, doing a few exercises in the early mornings always sets me up... though, mostly for sleep some 10 hours later.

We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

Re: After work activity recovery
Wot I do.
1. half an hour floor excercises/stretches before work bit of qigong/taichi/yoga.
2.eat sensible wholesome breakfast.
3.dont stress during working day + eat small amounts of whole foods at intervals + drink water regularly.
4.wash face with cold water back home, then stretches + bit of qigong/taichi/yoga, short stroll to clear head and bobs yer uncle.
study nutrition, it'll help. wholesome diet is key.
If this seems extreme please understand that I used to be a firefighter and that was piss easy compared to my workload now. but we had to train for that job as it was quite atheletic. just like this is now for many posties.
good luck

Make sure you eat something decent before you start work. Take a banana or other bit of fruit to eat just before leaving the DO and carry a couple of energy bars and energy drink ie Lucozade Sport to consume during the round. That should stop you eating into your bodies energy reserves making you feel exhausted at the end of the round.
When you get home have a quick bite to eat i.e. beans on toast or scrambled eggs then the important bit have a cup of coffee then go and lie down for 20-30 minutes (generally referred to as power napping). Set you alarm clock to wake you up after 40 minutes just in case you fall into a deeper sleep. The caffine should kick in after 20 mins and you should wake up feeling a lot better. A can of red bull when you start studying also works wonders.

Re: After work activity recovery
Do you take your breaks at work? I used to run round my walk like a lunatic like most people and found i was always tired. But just taking a break half way through my walk really helped me feel less fatigued once i had finished! worth a try...

A lot of this depends on exactly what your studying..... what I mean is it a subject that requires you to have an understanding i.e. Maths or is it on where its just a case of having to remember lots of facts i.e. Law?Darren Bent wrote:I would like to know what the best way to recover quickly from work, so I can do some studying. Also another factor is the length of study and the intensity i.e .Open University where you have to submit work a regular stages.
