Sell your gold / SD envelopes

I got sent a letter from one of these "send us your gold" companies a few weeks back and it the envelope was a SD envelope (addressed to them) to send the gold off with.

I had no gold to send them so threw both the letter and the SD envelope away but it had me thinking, surely they've already paid for the SD envelope? Or would I have to pay for it when I handed it in at the PO?

They send you a letter which you never asked for containing a special delivery envelope,If you dont use it they send you a bill? What utter crap that is.

It will be a response service like Business Reply or Freepost so they are charged for what they receive

Apologies, my partner having a Sunday morning jest with me..... she makes the point that the amount that these places offer is so low that they can well afford to pay for SD used or not.

What happens if a customer sticks a label over the address sending it to a different one? does that invalidate it?

Business Reply, Response and Freepost all have their distinct postcodes and are flagged up on arrival at the delivery office, so changing an address probably wouldn't work in the way that it would had ordinary postage stamps been affixed for the reply.
