CWU Training Courses

I'm registered for the CWU Postal Agreements & Procedures course. Has anyone gone on it? Is it any good? It's 5 days long....

As with any course you get out of it as much as you are prepared to put in.

Assuming you are attending Alvescot Lodge you will find the accommodation comfortable, staff friendly, facilities good and food excellent. The course is broken down into Activities and you work on those activities within groups. Everyone gets the chance to contribute to the group findings.

The Postal Agreements Course is very relevant to what is happening in Mail Centres, RDCs, Delivery Offices etc up and down the country so you will certainly take benefit from the course. The atmosphere is relaxed and good-natured in the class and there is fun to be had in the bar of an evening

In other words its a muck around and piss up in the evenings, all funded by honest working men and womens subscriptions. This is why the union is shite nowadays.

So you want the CWU to provide a utterly shite education and training centre then? You want the staff to be rude and ill mannered you want reps to sleep on cold concrete floors you want them be fed bread and water all week. You dont want reps to have any free time but to be learning and traing from the end of breakfast to the end of dinner and then back to learning and then straight to bed and do it all over again the next day. You dont want the CWU to get income from a bar, you didnt think it was free did you? You dont want reps to get to meet reps from other parts of the country and swap experiences? You dont want BT rep and RM reps to meet up and have the chance inbetween course work to talk about issues of mutual concern that affect all CWU mbrs?

I will have to write to trish lavelle and ask for a 16 hour working day with only a total of 1 hour break time to cover dinner breakfast and lunch.

Bit of consistency as well you have complained about your rep - without proper training they will all end up like him is that what you want

there is a load of other stuff i could go on for days but i won't boar you with it all!

I would go above your rep. 90% of these reps are only in it for themselves. A lot of people will come on here and shout me down, but believe me , that's the honest truth. The reps nowadays are toothless against managers. This all down to the cretins at the top. Ward and Hayes, thanks very much for your hard work.

Or is this just another anti CWU post - which of course is fine and ok its just that I prefer a discussions than critiscm without suggestions.

Sorry, are you talking about me? How do you figure I'm only interested in days off? The whole reason for going is to find out how to work for the union. Don't be a prat.

Well done for wanting to learn and use your new found knowledge to help your fellow OPGs at your workplace.

As for real ale, if your wanting to purchase some and drink it then the CWU will ensure they have some in stock for you. The bar is only open after dinner and dinner is after the end of the working day.

Some students have been known to visit the local pubs in the evening rather than spend their money at the CWU bar

Being a sub rep do I get any sort of training?, the rep has told me nothing and I'm getting staff at work constantly asking me questions that I don't know the answers to

i,m all 4 well educated union reps, but what if you come from aberdeen and have to travel 2 oxford for a course? surely regional courses are the future, and cheaper?

I'm a sub as well, I've been asked if I like to do some training, so might be worth getting onto your branch secretary.

There are regional courses.I did the same course in the Union rooms in Glasgow about 4-5 months ago.There were about 12 reps from various parts of Scotland on it.

Get your branch secretary to organize a course for all the reps in your area.
