Returning Missorts

I know this discussion has been had before but I still feel as if no satisfactory answer has been provided. Basically I'm wondering what exactly is the proper procedure for dealing with missorts on delivery - especially when one has already worked to one's time? I ask because a workmate was 'threatened' (in a not particularly threatening tone of voice) with wilful delay when returning a missort - after he had already worked his hours.

Now, personally, I always bring missorts back. I endorse them, date them and sign them, then I bring them back. I don't throw my own walk out, so I'm not the one to blame, and I don't have the time to deliver them. It has got me thinking, where would I, or the workmate in question, stand on this were the managers to carry out their threat? I know that plenty of people at our place bring missorts back whether they have time to deliver them or not, but they're the darlings of the workforce - I'm trying to establish the rules as far as we mortals are concerned.

I fail to see how we can be forced/bullied/intimidated into delivering letters that were missorted, for free (as in outside of our hours), when it was somebody else's mistake that caused it. I'm not kidding when I say I can sometimes face circa two to three dozen missorts and I certainly don't have time to go back delivering them most days!

Royal Mail blow hot and cold on this.
Sometimes we are told we can't endorse letters - "missort" and some times we are told we can.
(I think whoever prepped the frame should deliver them.)
To save time and confusion endorse them as - "check redirection".

We have always been told that if you have time to do them then do them,if not then endorse them.
I would of thought that those who don't throw their walks off would be doubly covered than those who do who are covered anyway.

And as we all know no one can be forced to work over their time missorts or not.

Once revision is implementd it's a lot easier because you can stash missorts in all the undilivered mail stacked up on IPS .

Are RM still sending out test letters because they haven't been mentioned at our office in a long while ?.

Every office has a different approach to this. so always check with your line/manager, with witness present. better still, if you still have WTL or daily huddles, throw the question in there,and you'll have numerous witnessesw to the answer.

We mere mortals (part-timers) do not have this luxury. Personally, irrespective of what a manager WANTS me to do with missorts, I am definitely not delivering them, in my own time, for free. I just want to know where I stand - both in Royal Mail terms and (much more crucially) legally - should the threat that has been made materialise in a tangible form.

With so many pt staff starting at 9.00/9.30 with there walk supposed to be thrown up and ready to go? (we all know thats not the case)you are going to get more missorts, as for willful delay walks in our office dont go out at all sometimes , so i dont think they can say too much on this one!

Well, it's very much the same in our office - with half of a walk not going out (controlled carry over), walks only having the dated and first-class taken out (streaming - a very dirty practice, not approved by anybody, yet obviously sanctioned somewhere quite a way up the chain at RM as it is now prevalent in numerous D.O.s). But these are management decisions.

We're talking about OPGs bringing back a piece of DSA sh*t here, or those ever so important postcards advertising two-for-one nights at the bingo. We're talking about those cretinous OPGs who refuse to work for free, as they should, to deliver this one piece of sh*t to a house because the moron who chucked their walk out managed to missort more mail than they actually managed to get in the right place.

And we all know they should be shot, or at least sacked, for not working for free.

If all else fails then put them in the post box. To expect spends a disproportionate amount of time delivering a couple of letters out of sequence (fault or no fault) is ridiculous.

My rounds covers a lot of ground and returning to the start if I doscover a missort at the end will take about 10 minutes or more for the journey cos it will take me away from my way back home/office. Anyways, I get missorts from my lapse, which I did not throw out and some are not even in the same area.

What if your missort is on another round or even other office or natinwide - ridiculous!

Dont do that mate,A young lad was sacked because the tosser who emptied the box took the 3 letters he found into the DOM,Hopefully your office has no such lowlife.

If they have already been through the franking system, ie have the little red dots on them, then this will be picked up at the mail centre.

At the very least they can be sent to your DIM to have a 'discussion' with you. If there are too many it be an IB investigation.

Take them back to the office, or if you are still pouching off in your office, at least endorse them Missorts to cover yourself or you could face a charge of non delivery/wilful delay
