why dont royal mail look after there customers better,people dont want mail mid-late afternoon.simple really,lets get back to the good old days,IT CAN BE DONE.firstly get the mail into delivery offices sooner,most staff start 5.30 am or 6am,everybody pull together,out on delivery earlier,finish earlier,CUSTOMERS,STAFF,MANAGEMENT,ALL HAPPY.most of our competitors are delivering earlier than we are,finishing 6pm at xmas,i was knackered.PULL YOUR FINGER OUT MANAGEMENT BEFORE ITS TO LATE.finally will someone give me a good reason why mail cannot get into delivery offices earlier like it used to be.my dom reckoned it was speed restrictions on the lorries ,what a load of bull.

when i pop my 1st letter through the door in the morning from 8.30 am onwards,i see numerous couriers allready working.

presume your on a nice easy duty,are you one of these who comes in early,then runs whilst on delivery,get back to your office and your nice manager gives you a little treat for finishing before your time. :vcfo

Am i wrong,but if the machines are so efficient and the mail is down why cant we get out earlier?I agree with earlier comment, If we are going to compete with the competition we must keep the customer happy as we are a public service,through my experience the customer wants there mail early which must be possible, unless there is something we are all missing.Mail is getting delivered later and later how can this be good for the business.lEarly start = early finish =happy customers=more revenue!not rocket science, : it doesnt seem to be the way its going, i wonder if RM ARE BEING SET UP TO FAIL,SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE KNOWS! :vcfo

We start at 5.30am Wed/Thur/Fri and 5am Sat.

Never heard of such night rate, any rate scrapped long ago.

Posted similar on this subject before, at GMC we had duties changed/ lost
due to "Network changes" mail would arrive earlier than before so our despatch
would be earlier (ha feckin ha) mail often arrives later than ever so the
knock-on effect is d/o's suffer. Factor in the reduction in staff sorting manual
mail & packets over the last 18 months and they now have the situation where
mail often fails the despatch time. It aint rocket science...they were warned
what could/would/does happen, their answer was always the same "orders from above"
it seems to me that "above" have'nt a scooby as to what is happening to this
once great service or as seems more likely they are just running it into the
ground to sell it off cheaply :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

Before you call us two managers narks or something similar, I would find out what a shithole my old office was run by one of the nastiest humans you would ever come across. I stood up to this bully only to beconduct coded for the most bizarre things. Office sticking together over some of the incidents? Not a chance. They would work for free for this bully just to get him off their backs and do so called deals for leave or easy walks on lapsing.
Have you been conduct coded for pointing at a manager which was so called threatening behaviour? I have, and the rep just shrugged his shoulders.
Mclovin, we used to be paid a night rate from 5-6 am each week up until around 2003 although I could be wrong at the date. Had to show the csa back in 98 all the wage slips and they took thispart of my csa money out of the final figure for some reason or other.same as Saturday supplement, that wasn't taken into consideration but the 80 a month bonus was. Go figure that but I'm off toic slightly. So I was defo paid a rate( which I call night rate) from 5-6 am.

end of the day Royal mail consider their 'customer' to be the people who post the mail rather than those who receive it ( which is technically correct)

and they have to keep the customer happy - as long as they get their mail collected, sorted and delivered for the right price then they are happy

to be fair they have a point

if you ran a business you would look after the people spending millions a year with you rather than the people at the other end

in these days of DSA and competitors they have to look after the big customers we have left

it doesn't make it right from our point of view but it does make business sense

us posties will always see the customer as the person we deliver to

RM see the customer as the person who pays them

Goodness me 0830am 1st Letter we are not allowed out of office until 0935am by the Gestapo i start dead on 0600pm and still ready to go out same time as the runners

I said it once on here a long long time ago,seems like another lifetime.But what was wrong with the TWO DELIVERY SYSTEM we all used to work.Start earlier,do what our competitors can't do get rid of 99% of all packets,work till our time if I remember rightly,just after emptiying the boxes on our round,customer got what they wanted,we got what we signed up for no late SA's finish 12.30 ish made big profits,all was well with the world.At my office It has been a standing joke with me,ever since SDD I have been waiting for it to go full circle,and some wizz kidd with an Ology say I'Ve had a great idea!!!!!!!!!In the mean time I'll keep waiting..........
