TOLD TO TAKE UNPAID LEAVE

I asked our DOM today if there would be a problem if I had a day off next week as my wife may need an eye operation. She is seeing the Consultant on Monday and due to the poor state of her eye, there is a good chance that they may say to have the op done sometime next week.
The DOM said that because somebody else had 'got in first' and asked for a few days off next week I couldn't have this day off.
I said that I will have to have it as there is nobody else to take my wife and I should be with her.
She then said that I will have to take it as unpaid leave despite the fact I have 2 days left of leave in this leave year, plus if my walk is to covered by somebody , then surely I shouldn't have to take unpaid for this.
Her attitude has been dreadful since she has been in our place and I rarely go sick or ask for any favours and you get this. How many people would have just gone sick?

Just take a sick day. You're worried and stressed about your wife and the condition of her and eye and aren't in the right frame of mind for work.If you came to work you'd be stressing over your wife and you'd be a health and safety risk to yourself and your work colleagues. Your Dom won't have a leg to stand on. If she hassles you about it when you come back to work, you go down the conduct code and take up a grievance against her.

You will need to put in a grievance against her. She is stating that you can get unpaid leave which will mean that you will be
off that day but she wont allow you to use a days annual leave.
This is just petty & childish behaviour by your dom.
I realise that this may leave her short staffed but it is better for her to use up some annual leave rather than unpaid leave.

Go to doctor get a note for stress have a couple weeks off, everytime manager gets in touch about going back to work go back to doc's say you are being harassed by work and its making your condition worse and get another note, also put the greivance in. I think the next time you make a reasonable request it will be accepted.

Family medical problem-Urgent indicates an immediate need, the provision with pay should normally be one day, with further days unpaid or covered by holiday entitlement. Exceptional circumstances might warrant 3 days.  Where regular treatment is occurring the employee should try and get appointments outside work hours and Post Office Ltd should help by arranging changes to working hours wherever possible.  Managers should treat requests for additional time off with sympathy bearing in mind that a stoppage of pay will add to the stress of hospital treatment.  
It should be noted that taking someone to hospital for an arranged appointment is not Special Leave A, but should be taken as Unpaid or Annual Leave.

I'd quite like to take unpaid leave, can't even get that in my office let alone the holidays you are entitled to!

Next time anything like this happens, just take the time off!!! just say your wife has been rushed into hospital and you have to be with her, then when you return to work, then sort out if you want to be paid or not? Time off helping your wife is worth not getting paid for, and then you owe Royal Mail nothing.

Trouble with going sick is he's already said he wants the day off.

Rule number 1 when you want a day off,check the leave sheet,double check it's up to date,if it's full you know what to do.
If it's not full,get ready for a pointless cause you're entitled to it anyway row.

He has already stated that he has 2 days annual leave available. Dom wont let him use that but she will allow unpaid leave.
Thats F*cking madness!!!!! She is still going to have to get his duty covered, so why not allow him to use a days annual leave
which will make it one less day for the ar*ehole of a dom to worry about.
Chuck in a grievance and state that you have annual leave but she is making you take unpaid leave. Her boss will kick her arse
for being so obtuse.
