Crb checks

Hi had my interview ect now waiting for a some crb checks does anybody know how long the checks take? i have been told 10 working days but still not heard anything that was 12 days ago .also once your at this stage is the job pretty much yours ? the job is for a 30hour postman........thankyou

though that CRB was only for those working with children and vulnerable adults?..... although that does sound like RM employee's

RM are a bit slow in getting you from the interview stage to the "actually doing some work" stage - in my case it took about three months. I would phone HR if I were you and chivvy them along a bit, that's what I did..in a nice way of course.

I wouldn't worry unless you've had something serious in the last 10 years. Crb are running about 5 weeks behind but it also depends on how quick companies request the info.

I think its a confusion of terms - You are right RM don't do CRB checks as far as I know. However, we are what is termed as a "reportable profession" in other words if we are convicted or charged with something (not sure what the threshold is ) the Police/Court have to inform RM. Because of that I think RM do Security and Background checks, not as deep or as thorough as a CRB check.

Think your probably right there TBT. I wish RM did do CRB checks, you need them to be Taxi Driver nowadays. I was looking into that as a way of earning some extra cash but you've got to pay for it yourself.
Obviously Fraud isn't one of those reportable offenses, otherwise we'd be getting accurate figures!

Even a Police Caution is reportable despite the fact that legally it isn't a conviction.

The checks can't be that good, we once had a bloke start part time, 2 weeks later he was escorted off the premises when he turned in for work. A few weeks later we found out that he just just been released from a 2 year stretch for burglary, he was unfortunate enough to be put on a round with the house that he burgled on it. It was the woman who's house it was who reported It to our DOM when she saw him delivering her post.

I was SCRO(Scottish Criminal Record Office) checked when I started 12 years ago ,and no one is allowed to start in our office until their SCRO check has come back .

I wonder if they checked the criminal records of all the "strike breakers", you can't say scab any more so I won't, that they shipped in while we were on strike the other year ?

So if they did the "Test Unconditional Matters" ....does that make you a SCROTUM ??

Convicted thief was Royal Mail employee

A district judge has criticised the Royal Mail for employing a postal worker with a long criminal record for dishonesty.

Judge Graham Wilkinson was shocked to hear that 44-year-old Zydrunas Ksonas was employed as a sorting officer by Royal Mail when he appeared at the city’s magistrates court on two charges of theft.

The native Lithuanian had a history of 26 convictions for dishonesty against him since arriving in the UK in 2004, the court heard yesterday

on what grounds will u fail a crb? my partner is awaiting his but did some bird 3 years ago for GBH with intent. Will this affect his application? Every1 deserves a second chance???

Yes he will probably fail the CRB check if he has not been up front about it as they will find out and failure to disclose would bring his trust into question.

Its best if he is up front about the conviction and circumstances because, as far as I know, the fact that it was a violent crime he was committed for means it will show up on a check especially as it is an unspent conviction. Also if he fails to inform RM and is employed before the CRB is complete he will be sacked.

Sentence not exceeding 6 months it takes 7 years to become spent. If over 6 months it takes 10 years.
