our new work times have been in since our revision came in, in october. some people have opted for 9 day fortnights, others have opted to work 3 weeks on(6 days a week) and a week off. anyway, we,ve all been given our a/l entitlement for 2011, and EVERYBODY who is on these times have had 3 days deducted from our annual leave. the shyte they are spinning is,.....'because annual leave is based on 8 hour days,..and our working day is based on 8hrs 50mins a day.' (thats how we get our 9 day fortnights, and 3 weeks on and one off)....SO, they say, 'when we are off, we are off at 8hrs 50mins per day' meaning we owe them 50mins each time we are off. the way i see it is: 8 hrs 50mins a day over a 4 week period equates to 159hrs work. this is regardless if you are 9day fortnight or 3 on, 1 off. if you work a normal 8 hr day over a 4 week peroid, you have worked 160 hrs. this means people doing the new shift patterns owe royal mail, ONE hour a month. now allowing for your 4 weeks annual leave, this means over the remaining 11 months we are at work, we owe them a grand total of 11 hours.(one hour per month). yet they are deducting THREE days from our annual leave, which, as THEY claim is 8 hours a day. meaning they are deducting 24 hrs from our annual leave, when we only should have 11 hours deducted. has anyone else on these shifts had this stunt pulled on them.????...ive asked the rep who just shrugged his shoulders and said, 'it,ll be correct, dont worry, they wont rob us'!! im taking this further. the b******* are getting away with murder.

I think your holiday entitlement is based on the number of days you work.
Less days = less holidays.
This should have been explained before you made your choices.

three weeks on one week off is 17 weeks off without annual leave wow thats good

this years annual leave form says basic entitlement 26 days, and the got, adjustments-3 days. i KNOW we are working less over the month, but only by 1 hour. the 24 hours they are keeping should only be 11.

If you have gone from a 5 day week to a 9 day fortnight you are working ONE DAY LESS per fortnight = TWO DAYS LESS per month.
The number of hours isn't what counts. It is the number of days I think.

But that is not how your annual leave entitlement is worked out.

If you work a 3 on 1 off 6 day week system you are effectively banking the extra hours for your week off.
If you want a weeks annual leave you have to pay for those extra hours as well.
1 week of annual leave equates to 40 hrs or 39 if you have the SWW.
Just because you have opted for a different attendance pattern that doesn't change.
The guys on a 4 day week get less days as well.

I think their's has been auto-adjusted to align the hourage with the days which is what happens with the 4 day week.

In days.....No.
Your days are longer and you work less of them.

This is based on 5 weeks on 1 week off
Now with 3 weeks on 1 week off, now I'm getting confused
Does your number of days off reduce because your hours are longer.
It may well do, something to check out.
