Flyers and breaks - reply for andy2007

I typed this up before the other thread was locked and it explains the issue so here it is-

Andy you have been given completely the wrong idea. People aren't getting worked up about it because drivers get delayed. That's absurd. It's the exact opposite of that. The drivers are usually the first out the door and the first back early. Drivers don't want you to take a break if it means they have to wait around for you to get your bags ready. If I took my break before getting my bags ready my driver would, and does anyway if I'm behind, just leave and tell a manager he has to go bye.

The reason it's a contentious issue is that some guys take their breaks and deliver at a safe speed while others don't take their breaks, rush round and finish an hour earlier and get home an hour earlier. This getting home early is what grates. You might think what's the problem they still do thier job? The main problem with it is they do a very poor job for the customer. They rush round dumping packets on doorsteps, putting recorded letters through the letter box without trying to get a signature. They dump mail at the entrance to flats instead of going to every door, they jump over walls, and they make lots of delivery mistakes in their rush. They also leave unattended bags of mail on their bike or at the bottom of flats while they rush off to do the next floor.

This not only does the customers no favours, it makes the guys trying to do the job properly look slow. A manager will then say 'what is wrong with you, why are you booking OT when so and so finished an hour before you?' Also when the 'flyers' are your day off cover you will come back in after a day off to find he's brought mail back after not trying hard enough to get into a block of flats. He's left packets on your bench he couldn't be bothered to take out. He hasn't done any of the door to door leaflets. And when you get out on delivery numerous people come out of their doors handing you misdeliverd mail from the day before or you find it on their door step. They don't know your day off guy made the mistake so you feel like a twat.
